Ardbeg Scorch – Committee Release
- Author: bkeller86
- Rating: 84/100
- Review: “Scorch CR (51.7%) vs Scorch (46%)
- Nose: Lemon, Herbal, Spicy Rye, Malty, Vanilla cream. Smoke seems much more muted than other Ardbegs, imo. If anything I’m getting a wet warehouse note. Deeper, sharper, with more going on than the standard.
- Palate: Bakery Notes, Smoke shows up but in a friendly way (not the traditional rambunctious fashion). Easy drinking, smooth.
- Finish: More vanilla sweetness, no burn and more lively than the standard. Medium in length.
- Rating: 84/100 (Overhyped)
Ardbeg Scorch
- Author: bkeller86
- Rating: 79/100
- Review: “Scorch CR (51.7%) vs Scorch (46%)
- Nose: Herbal, Vanilla, Lemon. Softer but rounder. A very slight bit of wet, damp earthy peat. Pleasant but quite a bit less interesting than the CR.
- Palate: Creamy Vanilla with herbs. Where’s the smoke? I’m confused.
- Finish: Average.
- Rating: 79/100 (Also Overhyped)”
Basil Hayden’s Artfully Aged
- Author: Tenman1
- Rating: 50/100
- Review: “A lot of people say this is a smooth and “nice” bourbon but I think it’s kind of harsh with a lot of pepper and spice. I can also feel oak and the aftertaste is pretty long and spicy, but I find some sweets in the nose with vanilla and dry fruits and it smells good. I tried to open it up with some drops of water and I let it rest for ten minutes but I cannot make up my mind on this one; it’s kind of overrated. It’s strange because the nose is really good but I cannot find the sweetness in the taste. In the beginning when I try to leave the whisky on the front of my tongue I taste “paper” and pepper. Can it be a bad batch?”
Bowmore Small Batch
- Author: AyeSLAY
- Rating: 65/100
- Review: “If that was a blind tasting, I would say this is a good cheap Islay guy from negotiants or a good (as much as it can) low segment Islay blend. But I knew that was Bowmore. It is no good for Bowmore. It is not a malt with anything apart from typical whiskiness, nor it is a good peat-me-through attraction – quite young, yet too Bowmory peated. I bet it is a strategical failure with this release. Bowmore didn’t care about this malt — I don’t give a dram about it.“
Bulleit 95 Rye
- Author: BillShannon
- Rating: 73/100
- Review: “Since this sucker is 95% rye, it should give me the Platonic ideal of what “”rye whiskey”” is, yes? I got a half-bottle for $20, which I wish they would make more of. This one stands on its own, with lots of spices and an herbal character. But it’s also tailor made for an Old Fashioned or a Kentucky Mule. A very solid buy.”
Kavalan Port Cask
- Author: Don_Cassi
- Rating: 84/100
- Review: “The nose starts out very closed and dark with cassis, cognac, marzipan and a slight hint of glue. Behind it light herbal atoms. Relatively soft in the mouth for the alcohol content, plus dark fruity and a bit sour. In the finish, the alcohol hits first, then the oak spreads over a Haribo blackberry note. There is a slight hint of glue in the background. Intense representative from Taiwan, who unfortunately cannot express the intensity in flavors. Grade: 2+”
Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength, B1/20
- Author: BigJim
- Rating: 100/100
- Review: “Best Irish out there. Mic drop…”
Taketsuru Pure Malt
- Author: Larry411
- Rating: 87/100
- Review: “Orchard fruits and soy sauce, malty, viscous, slight whispy speyside-like smokiness with faint hints of tobacco, hints of French vanilla, and no rough edges. This tastes like a 20+ year old whiskey with less complexity (even though I heard it was mostly 10). Good stuff!”
The Six Isles Batch Strength
- Author: Mott
- Rating: 87/100
- Review: “Kudos to whoever the blender was that put these barrels together because wow what a whisky. This is big, this is spicy and this is a brilliant representation of whisky from the six isles coming together in near perfect harmony. Not a quiet or easy drinking dram and all the better for it.”
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
- Author: fletcherbird
- Rating: 15/100
- Review: “Not a fan at all, would rather drink unleaded 95”
