Sweet, floral, woody & dry nose, nice color & film on the glass: Lovely kick 💥 on tasting, sweet AND spicy, nothing harsh at any point. I enjoyed this very much.

Nose

Floral & sweet

Palate

Sweet cake, then a mellow peppery spice. Long & pleasant, spirit evident - Nice!

Finish

Delightful, hangs on for a while - stays sweet & grassy! Again "Nice", nothing over dry or bitter. 👍

General description

Today one of the basic expressions of Glenrothes on my desk. The 43% Glenrothes Select Reserve.
The outcome of the Glenrothes distillerie goes for 98% nameless in the Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark blends. The 2% that's left is bottled by Berry Brothers under the distilleries name.
The Glenrothes bottles are beautiful with a small label. In the case it leaves a nice view on the golden liquer inside.

On the nose it's a typical Speyside after second nosing. First nosing altough was a bit methylated and malty. But after that the bourbon sweetness comes with vanilla, honey and caramel. Rather Butterscotch like. Some orange marmelade and a hint of cinnamon spice completes.
I took some time to drink this dram, but that's not advisable. The nosing turned dissapointingly flat after about half an hour.

On the palate this one is medium spicy and a bit dry. The malty methyl showed it self again at start but improved with every zip. Nice parts here were the vanilla, almond and orange.

The medium finish was mild and fruity sweet with a slight bitter nutty note.

I like the Glenrothes 2001 vintage a lot, but I will not rush out to get another one of this.
It lost a lot of points on the methylated part.

72 points.

General description

Fruit, vanilla and lots of toffee, followed by light cinnamon spices. If you like sweet vanilla toffee with a spicy touch, then this is your thing.

Nose

Toffee, vanilla and more toffee. Stewed apples, pears and apricots.

Palate

Spicier than the nose suggests, but also quite sweet. More toffee, vanilla and yellow fruit.

Finish

Cinnamon rolls and cappuccino with vanilla cream.
