light peat smoke, a little less sea aromas than the 15 YO has to offer, pine wood, blueberries, cherries, but also something musty, woody; the oak shows; almost some aniseed; in total a little bit sweeter than the 15

Palate

blueberries, oak, again light peat smoke; the sea aromas grow on the palate, it's also pretty sweet and got a little dark edge to it

Finish

pretty long; the sea, peat smoke, oaky spices and slightly dry berry flavours

Zu Beginn ist der Whisky komplex, dunkel und cremig. Dann machen sich die verschiedensten Beeren breit (Brom- und Blaubeere und rote Traube). Anschließend viel Sirup und etwas Waldhonig in der Nase, das ganze erinnert etwas an Waldbeerenmarmelade. Der Whisky ist dunkel und fruchtig von den Olorosso-Weinfässern. Zwischendurch erhasche ich immer wieder etwas Rauch, so wie wenn über der Glut etwas Geräuchert wird.
Im Mund explodieren dann die dunklen Früchte und Beeren. Ich erkenne Johannisbeere, Brombeere und Blaubeere; insgesamt eine volle Beeremtorte. Dann kommt die Süße des Sirups und es schmeckt ein wenig nach dunklen Beerenbonbons. Zum Schluss etwas Eiche vom Fass und dezentes Raucharoma.
Am Gaumen bleibt etwas Geräuchertes zurück und den Mundraum füllen Blaubeeren.

Ein wirklich sehr dunkler und beeriger Whisky mit dezent und angenehmen Rauch im Hintergrund. Einer meiner Favoriten.

Gentle and more smokey than the 15. Easy drinking dram, with raisin, dark fruit, dry smoke, orange, medium length finish. Used to be among my favorite drams, however is now a little underwhelming (not punchy or overly complex) compared to other Islay offerings, but still an easy drinking smoky whisky.

Im Mund fruchtig süß mit zartbitteren Anklängen.

Im Abgang erst kalte Asche (Assoziation nach Aschenbecher) dann Zartbitterschokolade und Sherry-typische Noten. Mit abnehmendem Rauch kommt eine Assoziation nach Salz hinzu.

The new 18 is less sweet, and softly rounded than before. It also feels more natural on the taste. There's less sherry, more pepper. A lot more intense than the 15. A lot more distinct. More smoke and maritime notes along with the sweetness. It's well rounded. Personally I won't buy this because it's not good enough for the prize tag in my opinion.

Light smoke with some sherry influence noted on the nose. Combination of smoke with sweetness from honey and bitterness from orange peels on the palate. Oaky finish that is not as long as expected. Its very good, but Bowmore's 15 year offering is more complex and has better quality for value.

Nice complexity and balance. Nothing really stands out on it's own but the package of flavours is great. Smoke is not overwhelming the subtle flavours and a great addition. Adding a few drops of water brings out the taste a bit more.

Beautiful expression from Bowmore. Too pricey for my cabinet, but less than a comparably aged bottle from Lagavulin or Ardbeg. Not as peaty as I like, but still a wonderful Islay whisky.
