Smoke, peat, soil, bacon, meaty, char, saline, herbal, black tea, caramel, mint, ginseng, oak, tannins, smoked seafood, iodine, leather, medicinal, rubber, phenolic, brown sugar, cotton candy, savoury, burnt wood
For the price, one of the best.
One of my Favorits!
smokey, rubbery, medicinal, leathery, rich
Another solid offering from Laphroaig.
This one is a bit more toned down peat and a lot more interesting notes than the standard 10yo. I wouldn’t call it complex however, and while completely competent it didn’t exactly capture the imagination.
Sweet, briney peat as is expected from Laphroaig, with that sharp, fresh fruit quarter cask note.
Overall I still think the Select is the best value for money in the core range from Laphroaig, but this one is the best experience of the core range.
great smoke top
So tasty and smooth. 48% abv is not felt here at all. Quarter cask brings richness and intensity. The palate is sweet and creamy. The finish is long but not as strong as expected from a smoky whiskey.
peat, bandages, white pepper, vanilla, yellow fruits, sea salt
vanilla, pepper, smoke, pear
smoke, spice, vanilla

erg sterke rokerige whisky. turfig, zilitg, zeeïg en erg sterk. lange nasmaak die brand.

Much sweeter than I expected but very pleasant.
buttery, nutty, smoke, coal and wood
Very sweet, but with a kick of heat.
fruity with the coal coming back at the end
Essential to try for an Islay fan. Beautiful, peated single malt.
rich sweet apple, the nose is very interesting as it has caracteristics of a cidre imo but stronger, and at the same time the subtle peat makes it totally different from cidre
it's like a sweet and sour apple crumble, really nice, really complexe, some very subtle minth and spices
very long and nice smoke with hints of minth
Not bad, like I'm in the hospital. Not bad, but not good either.
Nail polish remover,in the best way.
Soft, iodine
Spice, peat
muito fumo!
briny, smoky. really a mermaid's bathwater

The nose had a dry and slightly herbal smoke to it. I got some cooked pineapple on The nose as well. The palate had more smoke, tobacco, and spices. It was surprisingly mellow for its ABC and it had a long finish.
ein muss in jeder Bar
Very peaty and smoky combined with sweet flavours and a long, smooth finish. Love it!
Malty, peaty, slightly fruity smell.
A little strawberry, round warm taste, definitely Islay.
Strongest flavour I've encountered so far. And at 48%, it packs a punch. Burned wood, oak, peat... You either love it, or hate it. The reviews clearly show this as well. Rating goes from very high to extremely low... Whiskey is personal.
Me? I really love this one.
I definitely like this as much as the 10 and enjoy the the added oak burn
Softer smoke than I thought with a slight iodine taste. Not that complex and short finish.
Soft smoke, oil and fizzy cola bottles
Smoke, peat, iodine and a little medicinal with a touch of rich honey.
Soft with no spice of alcohol kick.
Rauchig lecker
Rauch, Torf

Rauchig, salzig, erdig, Karamell und scharf würzig

A strong punch of peat with oak and honey sweetness. Very accessible price. Coloured and un-chill-filtered.
Peat, smoke, oak, some honey and vanilla notes.
Honey sweetness and strong peat, oak, sherry and vanilla notes. Some spicy notes as well.
Oak tannins and peaty smoke. Later sherry sweetness and vanilla again.
All the smoke of the 10 year with a delicious oak aftertaste. Cheaper and better than the 10yr, this is my go-to value bottle.
medecine smoky peat taste, for those who like smoke and peat an interesting recommendation of me.
Rokerig, medicinaal met een zoetige afdronk
In the face smokiness, with a sweet aftertaste
Taste of burnt everything, so very very smokey, and when my girlfriend kissed me she though someone was roasting weenies in my mouth while smoking a cigar. Interesting but not my cup of whiskey, too peaty and smokey for me.
Nose is smoky firework remnants. Fusel ethanol burn, gasoline but also a medicinal plastic. Just a hint of royal blue ink from a ball-point pen.
Taste is Cigarette ash, cigar box, sandalwood, all the finest woods and spent tobacco. Cinnamon and clove on the back end, spicy. It contains the Platonic ideal of what peat should be.
The finish is the taste you get in your mouth after the grand finale on the Fourth of July. (We will someday tell kids what that was.) The whole operation is just a muddy, smoky mess and I am loving every damn sip of it.
smoke and peat then smoke and peat and somewhere after a long while some burn and a hint of sweetness.
Not for me
a whole room had a smell of bonfire... I was shocked:) amazing whisky...my first smoke ane peat whisky and I love it!!!
Jawohl!
my favorite laphroaig, heavy smoke and peat. Sweet and a little oaky end.
Not as peaty or earthy as many of their other offerings. Nice and warm, but not not as subtle or complex either.
Nice everyday peated scotch
Caramelle, light smoke, bit of spice
Light peet
Smooth
peaty, smooth and delicious
The bottle that made me fall in love with whisky, I never knew that drinking the dregs from an extinguished camp fire would be so enjoyable
Výraznější slaná než ovoce, mírně nakurovana na Laphroaig. Dobrá do slaná, silnější mírně nakuřovaná.
good peaty and sweet. maybe some woody notes. one of my favorites
Soft nose, but strong smokey and peaty finish. Slightly sweet with hints of honey and caramel.
Solid peaty Laphroaig, not as sweet as Triple Wood.
Briney sea air, peat smoke
Smokey apricot
Smoke, liquorice
I love this expression, it has good balance with sweeter and spicy notes and more oak from the barrel. It still has that classic laphroaig smokiness, with medicinal and salt notes but more approachable. Excellent.
peaty, heavy, long taste, a favorite.
Mild nose but strong flavour
Tar, seaweed. Not very peaty. Burning alcohol unexpectedly for 48%
Seasalt and pepper. Chili. Definitely some oaky sweetness and roundness.
Strong and lingering but quite dry. Chili stays there
thick flavour. more oily that the 10. great version
Macht Spass, Top!
good sipper, stronger than 10
sweet, slight raw oak, smokey, dark fruit
a bit of vanilla, strong peat
raw oak and campfire on the lips
Surprisingly rich flavours, adding some oaky wood notes to the usual Laphroaig smoky taste. Despite the higher alcohol degree, the result is more balanced than the usual 10yo, with softer and not overwhelming smoky taste and an increased wood and fruity notes. Just pity for the artificial caramel colours, but the price/quality ratio is going to make it my preferred basic level choice from this Islay distillery.
I find it hard to distinct flavors behind the thick layer of peat smoke.
starts sweet, turns smoky and bitter. honey caramel and flowers, a touch of vanilla, then peat, rubber, oak, and a spicy sweetness (it reminds me of an Asian chili sauce). Its better an more nuanced than the 10, but still packs a punch.
drinking this after a glendronach peated, what a combination. very nice sweetness to it whist maintaining it's smokeyness
Nice whisky from laphroaig.like the 10 year old so expect lots of peat, bonfire smoke, seaweed, sweetness, fruitiness and oak but more intense
Peat,bonfire smoke,oak,seaweed
Oily, peat,bonfire smoke,lots of oak,iodine,and sweetness
fruity and sweet with smoke
nice peat
peat and light smoke. very smooth.
Very nice whisky bravo Laphroaig
Heavy well balanced smoke with a vanilla and oak finish
A less strong corryvrecken. Smoke, tar, medicinal, sweet, long spicy finish. lemon sweetness, spice, smoke on the finish. so godd.
Iodine. Leather. Tar. Background sweetness.
Sweet and tart for an Islay. One of my favorite Laphroaigs. Very nice combination of standard and new flavors.
peat smoke. sour berries.
sweet and tart beginning. then antiseptic. iodine. ash.
ash. campfire. peat
Strong oak flavors, good smoke, fruit in the background. This is a great go to budget Islay Scotch.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask was my second journey into Smokey / Peaty Scotch.
It's a good Scotch but I enjoy Bowmore more than Laphroaig. They are about equally peated/smokey I think, I'm not entirely sure.
I think both would be a good introduction to peat / smoke.
I was recommended Laphroaig 10 but I talked to my Whisky/ Scotch shop, and they recommended Quater Cask over the 10 for more smoke so I went with this one.
One of the best bangs for the buck! (see tasting notes)
Like the 10 CS, a lot less Smoky than the 10 yr. Wood, chocolately, sweet biscuits, no fruit smells for me.
Spicy, oily, Woody, smoke is more invisible here. Appears on the nose and finish but not the Palate (at least during this dram)
Astringent, sharp but not hot. Slight smoke and peat lingers for awhile in your mouth.
Lovely smoke and alot of oak. Really good!
Medicinal, Smokey, peaty, iodine, semi sweet
Medicinal, iodine,
Smokey, peat, semi sweet
Peat, medicinal or iodine, slow burn
too peaty for me
enjoyed this very well rounded best with a splash of water'
salt, iodine, smoke
perfect combination, love it
Green apple, salt, smoke, slight orange, oak, pepper, peat, honey, ash, cigar, sweet. Nice with a bit of water.
Green apple, salt, smoke, light orange
Oak, pepper, peat, honey, ash
Cigar, sweet
favorite of me and wife
Full bodied flavor, light smokey.
very tasty, a little smokey. very nice taste, 👍👍
smoke and peat as you would expect but has a soft noise of dark fruit.. very delightful
peat, oak, smoke, citrus, nice!
medicinal, burnt rubber, smoke, sweet aftertaste
Rauch, leichte Süße. In Eichenfässern gereift.
good.
works
Nice peat, balance of fruit flavors with a fair finish.
Wonderful taste, smooth finish, just enough bite and peat to make this a must buy.
Peaty with a little fruit and a long pleasant aftertaste
Classic Laphroaig. Sweet and lots of flavour.
Mooie aanzet en fijne turfsmaak, lange afdronk en rokerige nasmaak.
!
smokey, dark fruit sweetness, lasting mouthfeel
Peat, smoke and little cherry fruit.
delightful... just delightful. Laphroaig never ceases to please a peathead
gentler than the 10, but still really aggressive with awesome brine and long finish. great whiskey...especially for the price.
Subtle sweetness with an abundance of briny peat smoke and some spice. A bit rough around the edges, though.
Lovely whisky with a peaty finish that lasts for days. Nose gets better and better the longer you let it sit.
Takes a while to open up. Seaweed, disinfectant and pine wood. Not overly smokey. Gets much better with time
Sweet and salty. subdued flavours
Great finish. Very Long and peaty. Highlight of the whisky.
Einer meiner Favoriten. Torfig mit Holznoten, blumig, Vanillearoma, Meersalz, langer Abgang
so smoky and peat filled.
One of my all-time favorite whiskeys. Sweet to start, heavy but balanced peat, and then lots of sweet vanilla and honey.
Excellent tasting, hints of wood were great
The nose is initially sweet but is then followed by peat. The palate is well balanced, first sweet vanilla, followed by smoke and band aids. Long spicy oak and peaty aftertaste that eventually fades into tobacco. Great Islay whisky!
more intense scotch than the 12 year old however preferred the 12 year old because of its smoothness
Warm, peaty and smooth.
very smoky and similar to laphroaig 10. I had the feeling this whisky is fuller, though
Love how the initial toffee and sweetness gives way to the smoke as the taste develops.
Geruch: Rauch, Medizinisch, minimale Süße, Grillkohle
Geschmack: kräftig, trocken, Rauch, Eiche, Tabaknoten, dunkle Schokolade, Kaffee, medizinisch, Jod
Abgang: lang, kräftig und trocken
Great smokey smooth taste. very enjoyable
My favourite Scotch for the price. There's nothing else that I can even compare it to in its uniqueness.
Wonderful peaty and briny nose. Palate is so smooth, smoky, salty with a slight sweetness on the finish. A little more oaky on the end from the quarter cask maturation. Very pleasant peaty dram!
Best value
Very intense
Hospital, Bonfire, Peaty, Oak. Maybe some brine and some sweetness in the background.
Nose:: vanilla, oak, light smoke
Body: strong spirit, vanilla, toffee
Finish: long lasting, lingering, peated
Heavy smoke and peat aroma/taste.
Lots of peat, bit of smoke and lots of wood. Very nice whisky
Sweetness, oak
Sweety fruits, peat
Wood
hardcore to beat the price/quailty ratio.
kräftiger Geschmack dank kleinem Fass trifft auf Rauch. starke Duftentwicklung
Pleasant but a bit narrow mouth feeling
smoke, peat, soft in the end, long.
More balanced than the 10 year old.
love this whisky. so good for its price
my favorite peaty whiskey so far
Cracking whisky, my favourite Laphroaig and one of my go-to's.
Very smooth and palatable Islay scotch. Great flavours without being overbearing.
Ordentlich Rauch, Kräuter und Frucht.
Slightly more mellow than the 10 year old, the only other Laphroaig I've tried, but just as enjoyable
a bit too strong on the oak
not as iodine as the original, but a fun variation
90, piney resinous peat with barnyard and mechanic shop hints, some sweet apple or pear, a little thin in midpalate, but luxurious long finish with just a tinge of alcohol bite. Great value.
Wonderful, powerful Islay dram. Driftwood in the ocean surf. Faintly metallic.
Mineral, medically peated, vanilla, mandarine. very much like Lore.
Spicy-sweet and very strong. Salt caramel and 40% cocoa chocolate. A bit like licking a rock on the beach.
Still salty and the chocolate. Long finish!
Great whisky. First tried the 10 year old and I prefere this a little more. It packs more of a punch. Peat, seaweed, smoke. Everything you want in a laphroaig.
OMG!!! My first peted whiskey. I am inlove
My first taste of scotch a few years ago so very dear to my heart! Love the smoke and peat!
Love the peat...strong...really nice finish
Nice strong peaty flavor. I directly get the feeling of standing in the salty strong wind on the scottisch shores. This strong and good taste remains fie a long time in my mouth and systerm. Very nice and relaxing feeling.
TOP!
Love it!
very good dram for this price. with some drops of water he show his full taste
Einer meiner Lieblingswhisky. Rauchig, feuchtes Moos, etwas Zitrus in der Nase. Angenehm im Mund. Eiche kommt trotz jungem Alter recht gut durch.
Ein sehr toller Whisky für einen Hammerpreis.
topper
Not disappointed with this peaty full flavoured scotch...
Nose
something sweet nutty, immediately followed by salty tones, wet ash, firewood, smoke, and mineral peatiness
Taste
smoke, more smoke, peat, mineral, sweet and salt (band aid), sweet and sour, some alcohol roughness and yes... smoke
Finish
long, smoke and toffee, wet peat, something oily.
Comments
price quality ratio tough to beat, if you love smoke. Gives you the things the more recent 10 yo has been lacking a bit. A solid and proud 86 points!
Perfectly combi of complexity, sweetness and peat
My first Islay, and I'm immediately hooked.
smoke, pipe residue, mossy, wet hay, vanilla, medicinal, sea spray
Sweeter than expected. Peaty, grassy, vanilla, brine, smoke, almost meaty, slightly oily
sweet hay, smoke, medicinal, light salt
The dram that got me in to whisky.
Einmal rauch in die fresse bitte! Perfekt!
Super!
smoke, ash and salt.
extremely strong
awesome dram if you are a seasoned one. Loving it day by day
One of the greatest whisky ever
Nix für Anfänger
my first heavy peated, i liked it. i was surprised that the alcohol was not to dominant
...
my cup of smoke, always in the cabinet.
peatbomb, amazing whisky. Show rating for more info
medical peat smoke

very hard peatsmoke
light sweet at the end

A fine Islay single malt whisky. Are you a peat and smoke addict or Islay nut? Than yes you found your winner. Not my personal favorite but like it better than Talisker 10 YO
fucking amazing
What a whisky this is!!!
The nose has now, two weeks after opening this bottle become a litlle softer.
But peat, sea, herbs and sweet ripe dark fruits are all prominent there and perfectly balanced.
On the palet the same tastes are there again, but now packed in a heavenly embalming oil surrounding tongue and cheeks.
The finish again is perfectly balanced with the same tastes. This time with a bonus of a lovely sweet spicyness.
This lovely tastes keeps tickling you taste buds for quite a while.
Alcohol is almost not present despite of its 48%.
A must have if you are a lover of peat.
Almost perfect this one
95 points.
My first own bottle of whisky and the reason why I yearned for more. Fantastic peaty taste.
it tastes like band aids how do people enjoy this
just like the 10 yo but the flavor is a little more interesting/stronger. maybe because of the higher alc %. hard to describe... you just have to try it ;-).
Young matured whiskey from Islay. around 5 years and another 6months in quarter cask. Strong to the nose. Strong peat and smoked flavor staying medium to long in the mouth. Goes very well in the rocks or with drops of water. Different type of whiskey for me not used to Strong peats.
Nossing is a bit rought due to strong alcohol vent and tongue is also occupied with the strong alcohol. No always, but 50-50 I really feel matured bananas, ofcourse there is the sweetness at the end and the end is longlasting.
STRONG peaty and smokey taste. Would very much recommend if this fits your taste preferences. This is very much a Scotch you want to slowly enjoy especially on a cold autumn or winter day. Not necessarily for regular enjoyment per se.
This whisky has been on my wishlist for some time. It is a strong flavor with a lovely aftertaste. No regrets on my side
delicious!! wonderful smoke and peat. salty on the palate, some fruit then medicinal TCP and more peat! love this stuff!
I tasted it for days... too smoky
way to smoky for me. taste like medicine to me. by the bottom of the bottle it was tolerable.
peaty, salty, bit smoky, very strong but very long finish. nose makes you travel a lot!
Another good selection from Laphroaig, though not my favorite. The abv is higher which overwhelms the natural flavors that make Laphroaig so great.
one of my favourites
Not for beginners! Strong peatiness backed up by %48 ABV will have those unfamiliar with Islay whiskys begging for mercy. Excellent dram!
This is a 48% scotch with enough peat and smoke to knock over fragile bistanders: Beware! Once you've acquired the taste, there's none better.
heavy peated.
its getting used to, but once you get through it, it is very nice.
Une version bien réussie.
It's a stable in the liquor cabinet
peat smoke oak nothing more to say
A peat bomb! Having smaller casks really works as layers of flavour hit your palate. Would buy again in a heartbeat
Was the first scotch that I bought. Couldn't have it at first, but, came to absolutely love it. Peaty and briny.
No
Mellower than the 10yo, less peaty and more woody. Very nice altogether.
Big peat, smoke, and seaweed. Not for the faint but a must have for a salty dog!
good.
