Too floral for me
Tasting @ L&B whiskybar Amsterdam round 3.
The next bottle in front of me was this natural amber gold, chill filtered 43% Speysider.
Benriach is one of the few remaining distilleries with its own malting floor.
Alcohol is well hidden beneath a layer of fruity honey sweetness. I had to work hard to find something more than this fruity sweetness. A slight mint in the back, that's it.
The palate has a bit more to offer. Besides the same sweet honey/vanilla and caramel the oak and malt are present. Spice accompanies the sweetness, but where the sweetness stays, the spice sadly dissappears to the background very quickly.
The sweet malty finish is a bit dissapointing. The vanilla and oak are softened now. The spice also is not able to keep this one lingering for a while.
Although this one is better than the 10Y, it's dissapointing in its simplicity.
70 points.
