General description

Fantastic $30-35 bourbon. Blend has continued to remain consistent and so has price.

Nose

Sweet Carmel apple pie! Such a nice aroma of sweetness, brown sugar, and a little hint of oak.

Palate

So balanced! Vanilla, Dutch apple pie, oak, little sweetness

Finish

Medium to long with more sweet oak flavor to cinnamon.

General description

My bottle was strong and in your face with the alcohol and rye. Very spicy forward with oak notes. Feels unbalanced freshly popped but after a month opened up very well.

Nose

Oak and spice. Some caramel, vanilla, earth notes. Ethanol is very strong but not as strong as the spice.

Palate

SPICE. RYE. very in your face. Oak comes through with some other softer spice notes like nutmeg. Better with ice and time.

Finish

The oak and rye spice ride strong all the way to the end. Alcohol takes over toward the end. Again, ice helps big time.

Good all around pour from 4 Roses. Sweet crisp nose, almost fruity at times with classic oak at back end. On the mouth a continuation of sweet oakyness that leads into spice and finishes with just enough rye. Very enjoyable pour, this bottle might not last long.

General description

A solid bourbon for the price. Continues to satisfy, even among some of the heavy hitting bourbons that are priced higher.

SETTING: This is the bourbon to drink while sitting on a rocking chair outside on a wrap-around porch on a ranch-style house, staring out at a growing field of corn. An apple in the hand not holding your bourbon. It's a peaceful end to a productive day as you watch the sun set in front of you with a dog at your side.

VITALS:
- Made in: Kentucky, USA
- Distiller: Four Roses, Lawrenceburg, KY
- Classification: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- Age: NAS but believed to be between 4-6 yrs.
- Mash bill: published on Four Roses website. A mix of of "E" mash: corn=75%; rye=20%; malted barley=5% and "B" mash: corn=60%; rye=35%; malted barley=5%
- Casks: new charred oak with a barrel char of 3 and 4
- Barrel entry proof: 120
- ABV: 45% (90 proof)
- Enjoyment method: neat from a Glencairn glass with father and fellow reviewer, Brian Dawson (username: bdawson57). Check out his review for this bourbon and many others on his profile!

Nose

Very little burn on the inhale, likely due to a high corn content. Greeted by a yeasty, bread smell with traces of cinnamon. Other soft scents like caramelly, light fruit manage to overtake the bread taste and mingle with a gentle pine wood, hazelnuts, light vanilla, and maple-sugar candy.

Palate

- Mouth feel: pleasant, silky, exceptionally clean
- Balance: solid balance - grounded but also refreshing
- Visual in Glencairn: short-lived legs but maintains clinging droplets
- Taste: strong wood and grass come through on the first sip while not being too spicy. Nice, soft and warming but not overly so. Between sips, you get a sweet caramel apple to sink your teeth into, probably a red delicious - emphasis on the delish. With a better Kentucky chew, cloves and a black burst in, but fade quickly with the apple being dominant. This bourbon isn't looking to confuse. It's got a solid taste that provides uniqueness; however, there isn't an intense richness.

Finish

- Lasting power: long with apples
- No more: the last sips were filled with a sweet softness, almost like hay - not at all unpleasant. The empty Glencairn smells of a very gentle oak, but it's present.

A decent bourbon with an oak and caramel nose shared by other bourbons. The bourbon goes down easy, too easy if you add water or ice. A caramel, vanilla, and oak taste with a slightly bitter finish reminiscent of fruit peels makes for a pleasant drink. Although there isn't much bite and it seems fairly standard.

I enjoy Four Roses Small Batch's complexity and priced in the low $30 (USD) range is my go-to "Daily Sipper". I highly recomend it.

Nose

The rye definitely comes through as does a huge amount of caramel and dark fruit and a hint of spice.

Palate

Brown sugar, vanilla, caramel and oak are the first bursts of flavor followed by hints of leather, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, corn and oak.

Finish

Short-to medium in length, the oak gives way to cloves and other spices and closes with a hint of alcohol warmth.
