I've always enjoyed this one. Good stuff for the price.
vanilla with an oil finished with a little heat from the 100 proof
Dark caramel color. A very thick and oily look. It adheres to the sides of the glass like a sticky mountain range.
Knob Creek 9, man. It's the best of both worlds: it's affordable, some might say a bargain. But it's chock full of flavor that can stand tall in any glass. It's great neat, in a cocktail, in a rocks glass or a Glencairn. It's the Platonic ideal of Bourbon for the workin' man. This should be a staple on every bourbon aficionado's shelf, just in case.
The nose is alternately sweet and spicy. There is a sugary sweetness that starts it off: cherry, toffee, maple syrup. Vanilla, it's just the hype man here. With a longer draw, the spices poke out: black pepper, rye, and red pepper flakes. A little bit of dry cinnamon. When you really jam your beak in there, you get something approximating the plastic white bucket we used to use when I painted dorms in college.
The first sips of the palate is very brown: cinnamon, oak, caramel. It's very apropos for the first month of autumn. I swear I'm getting brown leaves. The rye profile comes off as bitter caraway seeds. Which opens up the portal so some spicy business: red pepper flakes, smoldering matchsticks. Even though it's only 100-proof it brings the heat like Josh Allen on 3rd-and-12 out of the shotgun. (Trips left, McKenzie in the slot running a drag; Diggs running a post; Gabriel Davis in the seam; Dawson Knox sitting down just past the sticks. Sorry folks: Go Bills.)
The finish is a beautiful array of spices: pepper flakes, spent matches, rye bread. Blunted by a those caramel candies from the bulk food section. (With the little white part in the middle.) Peanut shells without the peanut.
good but a little too intense
vanilla
strong oak
moyen
Jano tasting
Cornflakes, Mais, junge Eiche
mild, Restsüsse (Aprikose/Mango), Cornflakes
Not much on the nose, as I struggled to find the oak, and maybe the slightest hint of banana. Mouthfeel was sharp, with a little caramel coming through. The finish was unbalanced and heavy on corn. Overall, probably best for mixing.
Very good for old fashioneds, less for standalone sipping.
very nice
sweet. heat. more enjoyable on rocks than neat. a little too harsh neat. it's a fine drink.
spice. sweet. wood
heat. nice bitterness. sweet. woody.
aftertastes I can't identify. short intense heat.
I'm still building my flavor profile, but it is smooth. I can taste the oak, butter, and toffee I've seen others describe.
Pretty intense whisky. can definitely feel the 50% ABV. sharp and spicey, probably contains a fair amount of rye. if you're not afraid of spice and astringency, but don't want the leather and bitterness of an eagle rare, this one might be for you
apple, candy sweetness. oak spice.
sharp and astringent. oak and rye spice and sweetness.
light and astringent. alcohol very present.
Deep carmel and vanilla. Great strength and finish.
daily goto
Spicy, needed a touch of water, good value bourbon.
This is a great bourbon to be less than $50. Very smooth for a 100 proof whiskey. Really enjoyed sipping this one.
Classic bourbon nose. Sweet, spicy, caramel, vanilla, and honey.
Caramel, spice, very pleasant burn, but yet very smooth for 100 proof. Vanilla on the tip of my tongue. The longer it sits in my mouth the better it gets.
Goes down very easy, just comes across as very balanced to me. Not really short, but not really medium either.
number 5 for the night...
definite caramel, oak, spice
thick mouth, caramel, then spicey, white pepper
fades to vanilla, pleasent medium finish
nose: the typical bourbon smell of vanilla and maple syrup
pallet: rich and strong, sweet and spicy peppers, some wood later
finish: oaky a bit dry
Enjoyable, easy drink with good flavor. See add'l tasting notes.
Dried fruits after you let the drink open up. Caramel, oak, and some nutty character.
Flavors on the nose continue to the palate, just in different ratios. Subtle dried fruit, lots of caramel, oak, and spice. Nuttiness does not kick in until after mid-palate bite. Very smooth afterward.
Lots of peanut brittle starting mid-palate and continues through the finish. There is also a tannin bitterness that detracts from an otherwise pleasant finishing experience.
Strong alcohol after taste.
Nothing notable.
Nice.
Strong alcohol.
sweet start, bitey finish on the tongue. goes down easy and doesn't linger long. unexpected for 100 proof.
vanilla, slight oak
sweet, woody/oak, apple?
bite, tingle
one of my favorites
high proof, needed to water mine down.
Not a great whiskey and might be a bit harsh for most people. I'm not a big fan.
a good whiskey
balanced vegetal and brown sugar nose. spicy, molasses, bit of oak, bit vegetal taste. short finish. good daily drinker
like this bottle, great spice and light alcohol bit. trying to keep my bootles in $40 range great value
stronger bite than I prefer un a sipper. but well done for $30
Not too sweet, good alcohol bite, slightly oaky, fades too fast to be treated higher, but a solid whisky.
Super tasty.
a lot of spice, oak with a hint of vanilla.
sweet, almost syrupy/too sweet. mild bite, but goes down easy.
good in Manhattan or Old Fashioned, not one for drinks neat though, IMO
Spicy, hot, peppery, oaky. A little too much pepper and heat for my tastes.
Nice mid range bourbon
Dry Oak, brown sugar
This is an ok bourban. Good to mix but not great neat.
J'ai bien aimé, un bon bourbon.
Maple syrup. Slight oak. Root beer, cola. Slight cinnamon. Vanilla. Cherry. Slight caramel. Great price point. Slightly rough.
The aroma is great and the taste is certainly strong, but so much so that I can't really discern flavors. I get the small hints of vanilla, but that's really all. A good shot whiskey but not a good sipping one for me.
the bold burn takes away from any complex flavors, for me it is more of a shot whisky then a sipper with a cigar. By no means is it a cheap tasting Bourbon but if you're looking for a smooth sipper this is not the one. if you're looking for a bold Bourbon that isn't over complex you'll enjoy it.
Harsh and big flavoured. Not to my taste, probably better with a mixer. Won’t buy/try again.
vanilla wood and spice. quite typical bourbon. nice bit too sharp and too alcoholic to be really good
my favorite Bourbon , I prefer it neat room temperature
One of my favorites.
Really good pour for the price. Woody and sweet. Would love to try a barrel proof version of this
Woody, sweet, slight cinnamon
Sweet wood, brown sugar, smooth, medium bodied, warming mouth feel, cinnamon
Charred brown sugar, wood tannin
This is a solid bourbon neat especially for the price point.
Very good bourbon. A bit more full flavored than I usually like in my bourbon, but it's good none-the-less. I don't usually buy it a regular price in NC, but it's a go-to when it's on sale ~$31. I usually select as a follow-up drink when I am out at a whiskey bar.
Not a dram for just everyone. With its 50 percent of alcohol and pretty spicy taste it's really "rude" on the palate. Enjoyed it more with two or three drops of water.
wanted to taste it, would not do it again. some spices, but that's about it.
good but It' a wild taste
smooth, sweet. not enough spice.
good rye substitute. spice is a bit overwhelming for me. great for an old fashioned
vanilla, dark berry, I'm getting baked bread citrus and spicey scent.
more vanilla, distinct corn bread taste. mild oak and kick of spice the longer you taste.
the spice remains and, to me, is overpowering. nice baked bread finish is more subtle than I would like. reminds me of a rye finish but less spicey.
Carmel, oak but not charred
A burner.
strong brown sugar taste with a lingering taste of chips ahoy cookies. "strange I know, but it's what i taste."
sweet bourbon..east drinker
Butterscotch, oak, and a nice rye kick. Some days this is my favorite bourbon but some days I find it to have too strong an alcohol taste. Maybe I’m too sentimental to honestly review it? Who knows, but I like to keep this one around.
given my memories of this, my tasting in June 2018 was disappointing; more spice, less butterscotch than I remember
Not a bourbon drinker but this ain't bad! Still too sweet for my pallet though.
Mächtiger Bourbon zu gutem Geld!
Vanille, karamellige Nase! Ausgewogen mit würzigen Fass-Aromen
Ausgewogenheit zwischen Würzigkeit und Süße
Peffer, Chilli. Starker Abgang!
not bad, my favorite Knob Creek so far
Spicy overwhelms the pallet leaves a sweet oak flavor at the end. Lingers too long. 15 minutes airtime
nice, slighty sweet and smooth.
lot's of spice... wood or oak flavors... alcohol numbs the roof of my mouth a little, but nice lingering aftertaste. not sure I'd buy a whole bottle just yet, but it's drinkable.
Solid bourbon. One of the first bottles that got me interested in bourbon.
Smells of vanilla and oak which I found appealing but the taste is pure acetone, not a good whisky!
cherry nose, hard to get specific flavor notes when mixed with water, medium to long burn finish, maybe a little oaky.
the best bourbon I've ever tried
An good everyday sipper or mixer, always available. 100 proof is ok but I prefer the 120 single barrel.
Vanilla, caramel, peppermint and cherry.
I did not like this with water added, but is otherwise enjoyable
Oak, caramel and vanilla. long finish with subtle leather aftertaste.
Vanilla, spice, good high quality bourbon at a great price
Very good. A little hot at first but nothing major. A nice balance
too hot. too expensive
great when cold, without ice, strong , but good flavor
Not too much burn considering it's 100 proof. A little fruity. No sweetness or caramel.
Nose has vanilla, caramel, oak and unfortunately what reminds me of nail polish remover. Taste is spicy, slightly smoky, and very oaky. Medium spicy finish with more than average burn - needs water or ice.
Smooth
Sweet vanilla and rye with a beautiful spice
Had a hard time putting a rating on this one. Was just "okay" but would be willing to give Knob Creek another go.
Oak fading in and out ... bourbony, but not special.
A sweetness that is reminiscent of a breakfast treat.
A long finish with carmel undertones; slightly more burn than expected.
Incredibly smooth for a 100 proof bottle.
Nice and smooth. Good sipping bourbon.
definitely some spices, finish reminds me of buffalo trace.not my favorite but it's not bad. hate to say it but good mixer with Dr pepper.
Got a bottle for my 21st birthday, I'm now 34 and finally opened it... one of my favorite Bourbons.
Absolutely impressed. Very smooth and extremely rich in vanilla
taste's unique, can't place it, I think I like it, it's not offensive. sorry, really not sure.
You can definitely taste the corn here, not exactly smooth.
very good whiskey, easy to drink. not too pricy.
sweet, oily, very tasty. spicy on the finish. good corn taste!
Venturing into real bourbon after years of Scotch. Nice start. Very smooth, a bit sweet, consistent mouthfeel.
Pretty nice Bourbon!
Great flavor and spice, high rye bill. Well done!
