After tasting several Glenmorangie expressions I had to buy a full bottle for my home bar. I've chosen for this 46% Quinta Ruban. It seems to be the normal 10Y old with an aditional finishing of 2 years in Ruby port pipes.
The port pipes gave it it's beautiful ruby red colour. No additional colouring was needed to achieve that.
Right from the start you can smell that it's full, dark, heavy and mature. Lots of dark fruits(fig, date, raisin) are hiding most of the alcohol. Orange and bitter chocolate can also be detected.
Strong wood and soft spice complete the nosing.
The taste is silky smooth with a strong fruity cask influence. The balance comes from a slight mint, a nutty almond and some bitter chocolate.
The long spicy finish provides you with everything that already showed up so far. New are the orange peel and nutmeg.
This beauty leaves a lingering oily teeth covering.
I would call this expression balanced and full bodied.
But still, this one is not my favourite from the distillery. Considering it's price it's stil very advisable though.
