Singley good and definitely not duff.

Nose

What have we got here..? Some honey, vanilla, something like cereal (with the aforesaid honey over it) and some kind of wee nut... A Brazil nut maybe? It's a reasonable beginning.

Palate

Buttery, creamy fudge-like with a bit of honey and heading into toffee. There's a slight fruity flavour hiding in the hay-like undergrowth...

Finish

Medium but doesn't dry out at all. The finish, and so the overall balance, may be the best aspect of this scotch. A little vanilla from the oak and some hazelnuts perhaps, then a splash of fruit that may be something citrusy... Overall, a really reasonable dram.

I purchased The Singleton by Dufftown as I enjoy whiskies that I have from various Speyside distilleries and hadn’t tried it before. I’m no expert but this 12 year old is relatively smooth with a nutty & malty flavour, good value and something for the everyday.

A really approachable dram that has a smooth unchallenging but extremely pleasant taste. There are many more complex Speysiders and many more interesting but this one often gets pulled off the shelf as it so drinkable.

Nose

Approachable and rich.  First polished wood and nuts (toasted hazelnut) dominate, then rich fruits, both stewed (baked apples) and dried (sweeet dates) take over, with soft brown sugar.  Behind this, a stick of liquorice.  Mossy.  Water brings out a sweeter, more direct Speyside character (citrus fruits, pear drops!).  Clean and dense.

Palate

Sweetness and crunchy nuts impress at first, then there's a smooth, fruity...  Firm, with a balancing sweetness: hints of blackcurrant fruit, brown sugar and espresso coffee.  Warming and pleasant.  With water, still a pleasant texture.  Light sweetness, then chewy and balanced by a light acidity, with a good spread of flavours mid-palate.

Finish

Medium to long.  Elegantly drying and crisp; then a sweetly nutty delayed warmth, which lingers pleasantly
