Definitely a step up from the number one, but again this is so orange it almost glows!

Definitely a step up from the number one, but again this is so orange it almost glows!
Pretty interesting on the nose, quite disappointing on the palate. Maybe it would be better with 46% ABV. Coloured and chill-filtered.
light peaty smoke, a bit medicinal, light fruits, citrus, sweet, vanilla
sweet vanilla, caramel, citrus, light smoke, pepper, a little bit of oak
rather short, oak, dry, some bitter notes, hardly any smoke
It is that unprecedented case, when during a nosing of an Islay whisky, the smell of oak strikes you first rather than peat, which is, of course, present here in a form of a smoking wood association. At the background of an oak’n’peat dominated aroma-stage here is a subtle sweetly sourness, which much reminds of a fresh or even jelly dogwood.
A tiny bit of water (as for a whisky of 40% abv) for second nosing unleashes black pepper that can’t really wait to punch you in the nose. Moreover, it hides oakiness and even peat — such aggressive aroma-behaviour doesn’t suit this whisky, therefore I recommend it ‘dry’.
The body is moderately oily, while the arrival is rather fast and remarkably gentle for an Islay whisky. It is also strange that the aggressive on a nose black pepper is not that much felt on a tongue, and it is a pleasing feature.
Regarding finish, it is one of the most wonderful whiskies I’ve ever tried. It starts with a fragrant chocolate slowly substituted by a subtly bitter tobacco, and all of that with a continuous presence of a little zesty orange somewhere there in the backstage of a finish.
I don’t like my AyeSLAY aged, but would much desire to see this one so — maltiness suits this whisky really well, though this particular one is not so perfectly rounded.
Overall, it’s a great value for money whisky, which is quite open for casual drinking as well as thoughtful tasting to ‘unlock hidden depth’.
Oak, smoking wood, dogwood
Rather oily, fast arrival, slight spice, overall quite gentle, tough not so rounded
Chocolate, tobacco, orange zest
Ahh just a good classic Bowmore
Nice intro to peat, but lacking in complexity. A little sharp as well.
Woody with spice and sweetness. Not as smooth or prominent flavours as the 15 and 18 year old but a solid choice if you're inclined to Bowmore.
taste: starts smooth vanilla and finishes with this lingering light smoke peat flavour. very nice 👌
light peat, very easy to drink
Takes me back to coastal Scotland, so smooth and such pleasant flavours nothing overwhelms, everything complements.
Nose: Brine, Floral, light smoke
Palate: Brine, salt, sweet tropical fruit, a hint of peat
Finish: slight pepper and oak, brine and citrus sweet.
got me started on smoke, nice easy whisky with a nice amount of smoke, maybe not the most complex, but very satisfying. underappreciated for what it does.
Great smell, smoky, vanilla and cask. Long after taste, moderate sweetness with hints of mint. Smokiness more intense in the smell than in taste.
Great smell, smoky, vanilla and cask. Smokiness more intense in the smell than in taste.
moderate sweetness, vanilla, smoky, wood, with hints of mint.
Smoky, moderate sweetness with hints of mint
this should be everyone's favourite, excellent price / quality
Peat, but not heavily so. Fruit, possibly citrus. Smoke and maybe something floral underneath mingling with definite sweetness amid heather. Then chocolate on subsequent visits.
Big taste early, with spice and sweetness like honey and butterscotch on a gentle peat bed with chocolate after. Then citrus of orange and lemon zest mingles with the chocolate and the depth just keeps coming. Brilliant. Very smooth.
Long and satisfying, with the return of a little peat, spice and creamy chocolate and fruit, maybe citrus.
My first peated whisky like it a lot. Nice smoke
Good smell and a very lovely taste, one of my favorites
Bowmore has quickly escalated to one of my top favorite distillers of single malts. There is a rich familiar decadence that can be found among the different editions. The 12YO is a favorite and comes at a great price point.
Salt, peat and smoke but very easy going
me as a lover of pear and smoke, this whisky is just Delicious. you can't do something wrong with buying this one.
some smoke, some Sherry, some pear. but complex and harmonic.
powerful, the smoke stays in your thought for a while. Sherry is good, not too much
Connemara.
was my great introduction to peat, stronly recommend
Less peated than other Islay Single Malts.
peated, but not heavy, smooth
good islay whiskey peaty taste not overpowering though
salty and peaty, well balanced though, smooth and really frendly, I would drink it again
Affordable, some smoke, but not great after the first sips
Easy drink. Soft. Good price.
Lovely soft scotch with lovely soft smoky complexity. June 2019
A little nail varnish and horsey.
Lovely soft caramel flavours in layers with notes of citrus and candied orange peel.
Long smooth finish
Soft and flavory peated whisky.
Little peat, even lesser smoke. Peach, raisins.
Honey, balanced peat and sweetness.
Gentle smoke on the nose, and the taste is smooth. Minimal smoke in the taste, especially for an islay. A bit of seaside and wood also.
Gentle smoke, not much spice nor sweetness
Smooth, minimal smoke. seaside and young wood
simple, minimal peat
vanilla peat taste. good buy for £25 but at full price (£40) maybe not.
Easy to drink Bowmore with light peat. Approachable for new scotch drinkers, but a bit short on flavour.
For me, this is not a good first dram of the day. It's a pretty heavy flavor to me, however, following a smoky blend like Johnnie Walker Black, it was not bad at all. Also for me, I would not consider this to be a daily sipper due to the heavy earthen peated flavor which to me has a hint of a taste of kerosene (which I guess makes sense because peat itself is basically a fossil fuel).
Lots of smokiness, but more of the peated kind, not so much the wood smoke kind. Bits of honey or vanilla penetrate the smoke toward the end of the nose.
Peat smoke throughout, vanilla and honey or almost a creaminess on the very tip of my tongue. It seems like the longer I hold it in my mouth, the more I begin to pick up on lemon, and the more smooth tasting it becomes. If I hold my mouth open and take a breath while holding the whiskey in my mouth and on the middle of my tongue the more pronounced the lemon becomes.
Smooth smokey and citrus. Again though, the finish reminds me of the smell of kerosene.
Seashore like nose. Taste of the sea, remembrance of bonito flakes, some sweetness behind. Good complexity. Long finish.
good, but not my favorite from bowmore. It's oaky with a good level of peat but just a little thin
I would be happy with is if no other peated scotch was available. Kinda boring. A cough syrup-like taste lingers.
Very smooth easy drink yet with a pleasant hint of a sharp kick. Sweet, 'thick' yet spicy initiall taste, tingling on the tongue. Quickly overtaken with smoke, peat, smoke, wood, treacle, oh, and smoke. Long lingering aftertaste of smoke.
A very pleasant, easy going dram. Give it a try!
Fruity, bit sherry, and peated. Not very intensive nor complex as other Bowmores.
Light peat. Good sherry influence. Suffers from being only 40%, but still taste good. Medium finish. Uses e150, but I'm not counting that as a negative.
Some smoke, some vanilla and long sweet finish. Delicious
the nose is a nice ash smokiness, with citrus notes aswell. in the mouth is sweet, with that peat coming in slowly. The finish is actually quite nice, more citrus ash and a nice vanilla note. Not a lot else really, too much caramel in this, and not enough alcohol to make it memorable. but for the price point it's good value!
Theres something subtle in it that doesnt agree with my palate. Not for me.
coal oil. sulphur. sour
tons of smoke, but not aggressive or harsh. it also doesn't have the iodine or meat taste of laphroaig or ardbeg. just peat, honey, vanilla, and fruit. you cant go wrong.
solid peaty scotch.
This Scotch was my introduction to Peaty/ Smokey scotch.
It's really good but the bottle seems to loose it's smoke a bit over time.
When you drink from your glass, the smoke lasted about 15 minutes. Bowmore made me fall in love with Peat/Smoke. And it's an excellent introduction to that.
nice peat aroma
smoked bonfire, savoury smoked meet
nice light pepper
Mooie en soepele whisky, heerlijk rokerig karakter.
turf, rook, zout
turf, zout, en een beetje droog
lang en warm
decent whisky bit too peaty for my liking
Very smoky, leaves a tannic almost medicinal taste in the mouth
Just a hint of smoke to start but grows stronger towards the end. Nice balance and a bit fruity. A hint of the ocean. Good starting for Islay single malt.
Heerlijk warm, rijk en rokerig.
Hate the smoke flavor
moderate good scotch, sweet, salty, smokey. tannic drying finish
smoke, peat, strong, honey, salty oak, wet leather,
salty, higher proof, astringent and drying, slight tannic quality. slightly sharp on palate,
medium long, drying, sweet smoky finish.
frisch, fruchtig, süss (honig, schokolade) und rauchig.
sehr ausgewogen und leicht. Mir persönlich fast zu leicht und wässrig.
Afdronk is mild.
Scherp, veel rook
balanced peat, smoke and nuttiness. Easy drinking, medium finish.
I'm not a professional but of all the whiskys so far in my journey this is by far my favourite. Smokey with no harshness, so easy to drink and enjoy. Talisker was my last try and this is a different level. Recommended for sure.
not complicated and very decent , well balanced of beautiful flavors
ottimo senza grandi pretese
Interesting body note
complex en mooi rond
Guter Whisky, trinke ich gerne
peaty and round. with a very gentle complexity
spice, round, peat
peat, smoke, earth
a Nice islay whisky, Peat and sweet. a shame it is collored though.
A not too heavily peated Islay. aside peat there are is quite a lot of sweetness: salty caramel, vanilla, dark, but not too bitter chocolate. The finish has BBQed meat and some dark fruit notes. Overall an easygoing scotch
sweet, fruity, peaty
The peat bog is no place for me to be. Sorry Islay.
Just a little bit of smoke. Not to much.
strong and a smoth finish of oak and peach
Rich peat smoke flavor with a slightly warm finish.
smooth with a light burn changing to a mellow smoky finish
Sweet with delicate tones of peaty smoke.
Delicious and smokey
Smooth smokyness, something like wet deer skin, light burn on tongue, sweet, vanilla, wood feel, hint of honey, for me a not that fast fading aftertaste and a bit dry end.
smooth and smoky
Sweet and rich sherry cask finishing with a tasty smokey edge.
Not so nice
Geruch rauchig, Geschmack dagegen relativ mild. guter Einstiegswhisky in diese Richtung
It smells like a wooden barrel, which is a good thing. Also it's fat more delicate than other Islay whiskeys. Good place to start that Peary journey.
The pepper overpowers the maritime qualities. Generally feels to have less character and balance than the NAS No.1
Maritime salinity presents at first, a light peat and woody pepper in the background. Subtle floral hints, Heather maybe?
Strong oak core, much more present than the No.1. Coastal notes over a peaty smoke. Hints of a gentle citrus.
Fresh coastal breeze with a slightly abrasive peppered finish.
Really nice Whisky for people trying to get into some peated whiskys.
Hint of honey flavor with somkey overtones. Best drank on a street corner in Edinburgh.
Was expecting more peat, but I love the hint of something fresh, like fruits or flowers towards the end.
Nicely balanced, some peat and smoke but not to much. One of my all time favourites
Mon go to, bien fumé, fruité au nez.
Tolle Nase, geschmacklich solide. Kein Meisterwerk und nur bedingt zu empfehlen.
could write poem
84, decent peat, some sherry, white or pale fruits, herbal, some caramel, medium viscosity, slight ethanol kick on finish. Good flavors without the richness of older Bowmores.
Smooth peatiness. Solid dram.
not for my taste
can smell the smoke right off the bat. lots of peat, but it is an islay. not really my favorite style, but good if into it.
Peat me up scotty.
I feel the scottisch salty wind in my hair when I drink this good flavorred whiskey
little fruity, like lemon. oak and little smoke
light fruits, mainly lemon, oak and little smoke. hint of vanilla
smooth. vanilla. little oak and smoke. later hint of dried fruits
smooth and mainly vanilla
Really impressed me. Affordable easy to drink. Good balance
Nice peat and smoke. You can taste the sea and some fruit
smoke, bacon, caramel and salt a nice introduction to islay whisky
very smoky and smooth taste. I loved it
You can feel that peat on nose but not to much smokey,,caramel also,on sip sweet and bitter aftertaste, nothing else i can find..
To the eye: liquid amber on its way to light copper.
To the nose: clearly recognizable peaty smoke in the front, a fresh yet sweet fruit in the back. Enjoyable.
To the mouth: obvious smoke again, straw fire. Kind sweetness in the back, honey maybe. A waft of fruit.
Subtle smoke and peat. A great entry into Islay whisky.
Smokey but a little less punchy than some of the other Islay ones I have tried which can be appreciated.
Pretty good. Smokey, but not overpoweringly so. Has a little sweetness underneath the smoke/peat flavors.
Just as the label said honey and lemon on the nose mild smoke, peat. Very smooth drop. Getting great hints of orange and lavender on the sip! Feels fairly thick and oily. I paired it with a cohibe behike 52...delightful. Refreshing. Empty cup smells like a hot toddy
peated and smokey
smoke, sweet, hint of brine
nose: smoky and peaty.
taste: perfect balance between the honey sweetness and the peat.
Nose and taste are smoky and peaty. Good whisky but does not stand out.
If you you do not like smoke, do not buy it. It was my last try of those islay style whiskys. I gave it a try because all reviewers said that this is a light peated on. Well, too peated for me. The points are for the salty sea smell, which i kind of liked...
Zitrusfrüchte und Honig mit einem ausbalancierten Rauch
Leichte Maritime Rauchnoten, dann Brennende Holzkohle.
Found harsh and could not level it out with several drops of water or chilled.
A lower key Islay, but still with lots of band aids and iodine. Not a pleasant nose, but makes up for it in the finish.
An Indonesian hospital
Malt and sweetness, although one dimensional
Medium long, peat and smoke, warming, the finish is the most pleasant part
Standard Whisky, strong chocolate and citrus
little bit of honey
warm and present
Always one of my favourites, perfectly balanced between smoke and sweet flavours. Ideal for a daily dram, could never get bored of it.
I really like the way this finished. Not quite as aggressive as some other islays, but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless
little smoke and peat, nice
Peaty, medicinal taste, a little weaker than laphroaig
Little too peaty for my liking.
The whisky that started it all for my. Nice peat notes and spice
sweet, smokey peat that's not nearly as strong as Laphroaig or Ardbeg. my least favorite Islay, but still good
Dabei sehr mild. Köstlich.
Zuerst milde Würzigkeit, dann langanhaltende Süße und Rauch
nice smokey whisky. not as peaty as the extreme Islays... a bit sweet too.
My sample is very pleasing, smokey but not overbearing. A nice change from Laphroig or heavier peated whiskys. Will definitely try this again.
Lovely Smokey smell and taste, with a sweet highlight
Light smoke a lot of malt a little taste of salt and a little honey
good smoke starters whiskey
Good taste, but low complexity
slightly smokey and leathery, good but not the best at that price point.
Very nice bit soure and easy going
Smooky. Not my kind of whisky
licht peat, zoet, zacht.
smooth, smooky, sweet.
peated but not too strong.
Very personal beginners review.
