About

The Islay-based Bruichladdich Distillery was opened in 1881, but their current product range is the result of the Jim McEwan-led revival of the early 2000's. Rémy Cointreau acquired Bruichladdich in 2012.

General description

Surprisingly there was no review for this yellow gold Bruichladdich Peat here.
This beauty with long oily legs was bottled at 46% and has been peated to a level of 35ppm.

On the nose there's more smoke and peat than the 35ppm suggested. Vanilla, cinnamon, phenolic wood and an underlaying maltiness make a lovely start.
After a while some wet soil and even a hint of sewer comes up. Surprising that last one.
Nice and complex.

The taste gives a lingering peaty peppery oak but slowly an intense waxy and nutty vanilla cream comes joining in.

The long sweet and smooth finish gives gentle peat and bbq smoke.
When your dram had some time to breath, a peaty nut appears along with some very nice dark fruit gummy bears. Wow!

A very enjoyable and recommendable expression by Bruichladdich.
For about 40€ great value for money.
