General description

Good. It's smooth and has a watery start (I was expecting a fuller mouth feel). Caramel apples and some cherries and damp barrel. I've just had a neck pour. I haven't put it through my usual array of tests yet, so my score will likely change.

I get the classic bourbon flavors here, but this isnt a great whiskey. It's ok. Definitely overpriced as I got it for $41.

I liked the aromas, but wish they were just a little stronger. Definitely seemed a little sweeter up front. Well balanced too. Versatile, good for a sipper, but could make a great cocktail too

sweet corn on the nose and smooth palate, finish is medium length. Seems like a one truck pony and particularly impressive. A splash of water adds sweetness to the nose, makes the palate even smoother and adds some vanilla, but adds a little heat too, finish remain the same.

I haven't had many wheaters and wasn't too impressed with the ones I've had but Weller has changed the game. Notes of orange, vanilla, powdered sugar, I find it pleasantly sweet with a zesty finish.

Nose

Fruity, orange (zest?), vanilla, pleasantly sweet, light cherry

Palate

Smooth, vanilla, malty sweetness

Finish

Nothing new, a bit of zesty bitterness at the very end

A bit disappointed. IMO this bottle does not belong with the others. If you can find it in a bar, by all means, get a pour. Given how difficult it is to locate, I would not expend any energy or call in any favors to pick up a bottle. There are many superior bottles that are plentiful. Thanks to my friend for sharing his bottle.

This is one of my favorite sipping whiskies. It’s smooth on account that it’s a wheaten bourbon and the price is easy on my wallet. The only problem is finding it...

Screw-top bottle
90 Proof
Introductory Weller
It is decent for an under $20 USD bottle, but certainly nothing special or complex.
Consider having this on hand to introduce bourbon to novice friends before wowing them with better offerings.
It is important to note, there are so many better bourbons for just $5-10 USD more (Buffalo Trace, Makers Mark, and Weller Antique 107 to name a few).

Nose

Weller Special Reserve's vanilla and floral blossom sweetness just covers an alcohol nose. WSR has just enough oak for detection but there is little complexity beyond the initial waft.

Palate

Bourbon pepper greets the tongue followed by an undefinable sweet component, which is is ever so subtle. The mouthfeel is quite oily for an entry level bourbon and just a hint of oak is left on the tongue.

Finish

WSR finishes quickly with residual pepperiness.

nose of vanilla and with honey and that old alcohol smell pleasant to sip but not going to wow you depth. oaky finish but I often get a heavy alcohol flavor in the finish that seems to be inconsistent from dram to dram. great for what it is. but we shouldn't forget what it is at it's core. a $20-$30 bourbon.
