Well, it wasn't on a wishlist: Just an Easter deal I couldn't resist - over 30% off! 😂💰
Presentation is exceptional, as is the narrative of the rocking bottle!
Dark Tawny colour - On opening, (screw top) a hint of smoke - first whiff was sweet & fruity. Enjoyed that, but:-
The palate suggests much more peat influence, again some fruits, nuts, even mildy oily & dry aged wood (leathery?) A shortish flat finish, grainy & thin. Missing that punch for me, but there's qualities here that many would enjoy!!
On a rocking ship, at sea, in the 1930's it would have been perfect. (refer to the touting on box) - I actually love it in my collection & I will enjoy it accordingly, but there's better blends & for the same money, better single malts.
Gentle smoke, then fruits but subtle. There's spirit but mild @ 40%
Its a bitter, almost salty, nutty, peaty (15%) grainy, oily then wood & leather! Lacks 💥 - There's so many tastes there, yet its not complex, but sadly its thin! Not unpleasant, just misses for me.
Very short & dry, but overall, its not unpleasant! A gentle smoke is there all the way!
A little beat peaty, also little better than black
Label
not a fan, compared to others. felt the peat, earthy tones were overpowering. Bought it for the bottle, but ended up passing it on.
very smooth, some sweetness, not very complex. easy drinker with some honey and vanilla notes but not much else going on.
novelty
Almost bourbon sweet with the signature JW gentle smoke finish. Great value.
Cool bottle but no different than black. Just more costly for the bottle.
A little disappointed. Maybe I was expecting more given that the standard set by Black Label.
