smokey and peaty but not too bad

smokey and peaty but not too bad
Smoothness and the right level of smoke. Excellent with a great conversation.
Excellent scotch with peated and smoked taste. Indispensable in a collection
Peat and smoke
Big, powerful peat and oak.
Long, Peat and smoke
Peat isn't necessarily its main characteristic, but it adds to the charm. Strong first sip, which mellows down and lingers for quite a while
Excellent and smooth whiskey, but not as complex as the Distiller's edition, or something like a Laphroaig quarter cask.
Smoke-forward, followed by leather. Sweet and lingering. Earthy tobacco without the usual astringency. A great whiskey to sit and think with.
sweeter than laphroaig
Smooth and balanced
sweetness.. sherry notes
at first the peat and smoke kick in
good spicyness appears (black pepper..hint of ginger)
honeyish- wine - matured fruits
very smooth long finish
was my first heavy peated whisky. i was in a different world for half an hour. peat, salt, smoke. great whisky
relatively new to whisky and bought this to give Islay whisky a shot, my god it is good, didn't know I would enjoy this smoke profile
what a whisky... smoke, peat and Sherry hints... amazing balance and incredibly smooth
Peat, smoke, salt: Top!
Smokey, hints of sherry. Spicy finish.
Very smooth whisky, great peat taste!
Very peaty / smokey with a lasting taste on the pallet. Extremely enjoyable. Dark in appearance.
Super smokey. Good.
Very intense peated whisky. Smokey notes are quite overwhelming but sea is also there in this must have whisky.
Intense peat smoke, sea, iodine, some sweetness
Salt, smoke, ash, hints of wood, some sweetness
Long and smokey
The sea is raging with waves crashing against the rock under my feet. The wind is whipping my face. It is Islay.
Smoke, surprisingly soft peat, oily texture, briney finish
peat. tobacco. oil. body
Highlight is the nose. Lovely sweet taste and great mouthfeel. Medium finish. Don't add water
Beautiful sweet nose with waves of wood fire smoke.
Soft. Somewhat medicinal. Strong peat.
Finish could be better
Rauchig torfig aber unausgewogen scharf. Bevorzuge doch den komplexer, süßlicheren Laphroaig.
Ofcourse peaty, but when it comes to heavily peated whiskies, this one is a bit on the milder side, probably because it's older than most Islay whiskies. Other notes include brine, like seaweed, iodine, slightly meaty and oily, vegetal peat, slightly peppery and tobacco. Aside from dark, dried fruit notes, there's barely any sweetness, great stuff
peat, smoke, salt, sweet, cherry - complex
Sehr vielschichtig in den Aromen, ser rauchig, salzig un leicht süss. langer abgang. super Whisky, Preis-Leistung top.
très bon whisky tourbé. prix raisonnable.
very peaty on the nose and smooth and warm. this is definitely a staple of Islay but very strong on the peat.
thick smoke and pray with a hint of sweetness
smooth and mild hint of vanilla
very strong oak, peat and, smoke
Amazing smokey flavour
vol van smaak
Well balanced, good flavor all the way through. Not overpowering. Will definitely have again
smooth, smoky and peaty, my favourite whisky
Per gli amanti dei torbati un must! Un whisky virile!
Very well balanced peat. Recommend to any peat fan.
Typical peated Islay, but very mature.
Gradual wave of smoke, but never overpowering.
Stays a while, but vanishes quickly when time has come.
Smells like a hearty campfire
Heavy smoke and charred wood
Peaty and Smoky
Smokey and yummy
slightly smokey, evaporative, light yet bold
Not for everyone, but i love this one!
Rich & smooth, distinct character and plenty of flavour to work through.
Smooth smoke & iodine, minerally, vanilla spice appears, sherry influence creeps in as sweet plums.
Early smoked woods, wave of iodine quickly becomes sweet fruity & malt. Rich malt and sherried fruits. Wonderfully smooth and well balanced.
Smooth, long, warming spice, figs, dates, peat smoke.
I understand why this whisky is popular. The nose and palate are absolutely flawless. However after swallowing it you expect a long lingering aftertaste which would make this one of my favorites. Unfortunately the taste just suddenly disappear completely. This destroys the entire pleasure for me. And for that reason I wont buy another bottle.
Solid whiskey full of peat. been a staple in my collection.
Nice peat, a bit smokey. Wonderfull after taste.
Amaze balls. More refined but I prefer ardbeg as it punches you in the face, whereas this one gives you a slap instead. Love the nose on it!
Smoke and peat and a tinge of leather and smoked dried beef. Like standing in the smoke of a barbecue pit
Smoke and vapor
Meat and dried jerky, earth and wet slate and must and moss
Long and smooth with smoke lingering
Next to 20 year, this is my favorite!
perfect balans ...
Smoke, Salt, flowers, orange
Sherry, peat, sweetness, oak
Spicy, figs, pineapple, peat smoke
Smokey Paradise. My absolute favorite!
Smoke, rich and simply amazing
Smokey yet balanced with complex undertones
peat , smoke,
My first introduction to real smoky, peaty whiskies. There’s a meatiness like beef jerky, but also a rich leathery note. Of course there’s the smoke, like sharing a cigar on the back patio. Wonderfully complex especially if smoky whiskies are your thing.
This is my go to, my daily drinker, my rise or die.
Extraordinary hints of lapsang souchong tea and cognac!
The benchmark for Islay scotch. Excellent all around, pleasant nose with smoke and a heavenly taste from the get go right to the last second of its long, creamy finish. I like this a lot and have yet to come across a better Islay.
Really nice peaty whisky.
Perfect amount of peat and smoke. Incredible dram for the price.
I'm not a fan of peaty whiskies, but this one surprised me! So well balanced!
Phenomenal drop. Near on perfect
My new favourite whisky. Love the peat and smoke.
Peaty on the nose, but with a few drops of water reveal many underlying flavors, including bitter almond.
Peat and peat but the mist balanced from Islay by far. incredible experience every time.
peat and loved the smoke, definitely buy again
Nice peat, yet balanced. Feels just right for me. Got some bite in the beginning, and the sooths down to a slumbering smell of dark chocolate lingering in your mouth, slightly bitter yet enjoyable.
For all the peat in the nose, a surprisingly balanced whisky
un excellent tourbé frais et maritime
The best ever made peat taste
smoke, peat, Ron Swanson....
dezenter süßer Rauch
Frucht bleibt neigt zur Kirsche
rich, dark and smokey. the mouth feel was like mint and I kind of had a Christmas tree smell as well. Not sweet or smoky at all.
Peat fire, mesquite, medicinal, dried pear, cantaloupe, ash, sweet liquorice, faint cherry, forest mushroom, stoney minerals. sweet and dry, rich and balanced.
Lean smoke and peat nose, but not overpowering. Sweet and smokey and smooth, very well balanced. Finishes with a calm smokey air and a hint of scorched earth.
To me this tastes like velvet tobacco with a hint of Piccadilly aroma; soft on butter notes with a crisp strawberry linger.
Like an old girlfriend
Neutraler Geschmack. Algig und salzig
Langer Abgang mit Rauch und Seetang.
Heavy burnt rubber and wax flavors. A well balanced dram but ultimately rather simple. Sampled from a 1/4 filled bottle
Burnt rubber, smoke, sugar, peat sweet
rubber, wax, smoke, spoiled dried fruit, smoke, salt, iodine, sweet, orange rind
smoke, dried fruit, peat, orange rind
Good, need to taste again to remember how good! Will edit review later.
Rauchbombe.
This whiskey grows on you!! Definite medicinal odor at first but all of the complex flavours and subtle sweetness that follows will have you coming back for more!!
This is way too peated for me. I've had antiseptic cleansers that smelled (ans I'm sure tasted) better. If you like peated scotch, this is for youse.
A really fine Whisky.... I like it
Smooth and smoky. Classical peated Whisky
Got me started to the single malt world. Smooth, peaty, great!!
Classic. So balanced.
A classic...Smokey and peat. Great dram
nice smoke and smooth finish
This is a fantastic whisky. Smoke, fruit, spice, honey. Delicious.
Smooth finish, extra peaty.
Little bit overrated in my opinion. When you can buy it for under 50 bucks, take it.
Like being mauled by a chain-smoking bear who just finished his dinner of barbequed salmon. At first, you're gonna say "Is it in yet?", and then it'll hit you...
too smoky for me
After my third bottle, I finally got into this malt and understood why it is so greatly considered.
It deserves so, because of its perfect balance between smoke and wood, its flavoured taste and long lingering finish. This all makes it very enjoyable and a span above most of other peated malts.
strong smoky peat taste. nice 16 year old. wonderful lingering finish
The Ultimate Smokey Whisky. Perfect balance between Peat & Smoke...
So much smoke, salt and castles on the tongue
beautifully smooth smokey whisky, age has kept the flavour but removed any harshness. stunning whisky
Quintessential Islay malt; an elegant balance of peat smoke and tasty m, sweet malt.
perfect amount of peat, not too smokey, subtle sweetness. can't go wrong on a stormy day.
Not sure how much better it can get
Bit too much peat & smoke to my liking. Had high expectations, possibly peat&smoke isn't for me.
smokey, sweet, strong flavor and a nice long warming finish. highly recommended!
Smokey, smooth, peaty but balanced
Smoke, peat, rubber, grains, light alcohol
Smoke, peat, burnt candied cherries, smoke peach
Smooth smokiness, peat, peach
Absolute favourite. Got me into the peaty scene. Smoky but surprisingly light finish
Peat and campfire. Great to just sip slowly and enjoy
Good balance of peat, medicinal taste and wood
nice balance in peat & smoke
In a phrase, Mothers milk! This and a few drops of filtered water will release a cascade of flavors of this lowland Scotch. My number one single malt.
great balance of smoke, peat and barrel flavours that lift off in the finish with a cooling effect
One of the best whiskies there is, period. Beats out much older and more expensive offerings, and has a beautiful aromatic peat smoke with a deep complexity as opposed to the brashness of some other Islay distillers. A masterpiece.
Aromatic smoke, peat smoke, spices, sweetness, ginger, salt, oil, treacle, earth
Chilli, sweetness, oil, aromatic smoke, spices, malt, oak
Oil, spices, smokes, oak, malt
If you like peat that doesn't quite rival Talisker this is the scotch for you
Sterile peated iodine notes
Oak smoke giving that medicinal flavor that heavily peated whisky carries. Very warm spiced finish
Spiced pepper finish
Reallly, really as I read, one of the best whiskies I've tasted. Taste of smoked barley, fine smoke, sweetness. Perfect balance.
Nice peat and smoke on the nose, seaweed and spice with a smoothness like no other. Campfire. Mild medicinal finish. Dark complexion and an oily feel. Fantastic drop
smoketastic. good with a cigar
Very smokey and peaty. Good stuff.
Very nice peated whisky.
Takes you right to the edge of your comfort zone, but leaves you wanting another!
Very peaty and smoky, mediciny, and downright beautiful
the best smoke and heavily peated whisky!
best whisky tryed so far. smell invades the room with peat and smoke. flavor is less strong. very smooth
slight peat, smooth going down
Nose was too smoky. Taste was too peaty for me, but subtle roasted chestnuts aftertaste was nice.
Nose: Ash, smoked moss, charred wood, trailing into a subtle sweetness of sherry and dark chocolate
Palate: burnt coffee grounds, cardamom. Some iodine, but welcomed amongst the smoky notes. Some natural sweetness coming forwards from the sherry cask
Finish: Black pepper. An oily dram, it’s heavy bodied and it’s warmth sits on the chest for a while. Lovely islay whisky
nice balance of peat against the sweet malts
Super quality for the price. Peaty and strong. Best with a few drops of water. Bravo!
can't stay calm after you open the bottle..
the whole room turns suddenly into that salty windy beach, with a coal mine right near..
A strong whisky, but delicious nonetheless.
won't buy again
Smoke, bacon, peat, and salt. Just a delicious punch of liquid flavor.
Complex. Peaty. Very good whisky.
my favorite Scotch, complex and peaty
smokey, peaty but kind of smooth
The second whisky I bought after reading the enthusiastic notes here.
The nose is very intense. After opening the bottle the room fills with heavy peat and fire.
Peat and fire push alcohol completely to the background. Very intense!
On the palate, what a sensation. Also here the fire and peat push alcohol completely to the back ground. The spicyness comes in like taking a sip of tabasco.
The pleasure after drinking lingers on for minutes.
Great how completely your taste buds are kissed with this great whisky for several minutes.
I would strongly recommend this one to all of you.
what a winner this is!
A must have for lovers of salt and peat.
Peaty and smokey on the nose. Richer. hint of sweetness underneath. Peaty aftertaste. Smooth.
One of the best, lovely peaty, well balanced
A man's drink. May be a little too smoky... if you're a 13 year old girl.
smoky and peat
best but really smokey scotch. worth every penny
Nice whiskey...just didn't like the rotten fish notes
favourite smoky whisky
Unglaublich kraftvoller, runder Islay Whisky.
Beautiful balance of smoke, peat and fruit. An absolute drinks cabinet staple and a go-to dram of choice. Even non peated whisky fans may be enticed by its smoothness.
superb balance of peat and dried fruits. simply superb dram, especially with a nice steak
Heel erg rokerig, chill maar niet bijzonder
Very nice, as long as you like it smokey.
perfect smoke and lingering finish! although I prefer 12yo over this, 16yo is still a regular go to..
Rokerig en krachtig
nice smokey, but not to overwelming
very very very Leary and smoky
My favorite Islay scotch, all-time classics
Peat, sea breeze, tar, iodine, leather
Very smooky and rich flavor. Overall excellent.
A favorite. open the bottle ad the room smells of a fire. Just a touch of ice if it is warm which gives a slightly different, softer character. Rich and sweet which balances well the peat and smoke.
Nose: peaty full nose, woody. Taste: full, oily texture, wood and peat, sherry with some salt. Aftertaste: wood and peat, licorice, stays in the mouth long. Great whisky!
very smokey in the nose. but tasty in the mouth and less smokey. very tastefull
heerlijk. beetje vanille. smoky.
Heerlijke whisky. rokerig maar niet te veel. Je ruikt gewoon de zee. Middellange afdronk niet scherp.
elegant, komplex, intensive Torfigkeit, ausgesprochene Meersalz und Seetangnote, köstlich. Süsse, getrocknete Früchte. Blauschimmelkäse passt hervorragend.
Very drinkable, was my first peated whisky.
peat, alcohol, wood
Incredibly good Islay, nearly the equal of the 18-year old Laphroaig. If not for the cost, a fifth of this whisky would occupy a permanent place in my regular rotation.
Great peated whiskey. You can taste the sea salt from the barrels.
One of the classic island malts, a gold standard worth returning to. Great full, sweet, and smoky taste. Also beautiful amber colour..
Schöne Balance zwischen Süße und dem Rauch. Großartiger Nachgeschmack, ohne Säure.
smokey taste in the front of the mouth. slightly burning in the throat.
Un grand classique.
Goede rokerige smaak, fijne afdronk.
N: intense alcohol vapors.. leave it a while and you'd get intense smoke and peat ... sea... sweetness behind the smoke and peat... vanilla..iodine..hospitals like... lemon?
T: complex...very oaky and malty... sweetness... vanilla... slight bitterness to it ..
F: very long..slight alcohol burn down the throat.. but otherwise quite smooth I'd say... bitterness.. dry... slight saltiness?
really love this one
A good Islay whisky with well balanced flavors of smoke, salt, honey and perhaps salmiakki.
Super!!
What a fine whiskey this is. After having tasted it. Must get a bottle.
A taste that sits perfect in your mouth. Wonderful smokyness and peatyness.
Rijke, volle en heerlijk rokerige whisky. Een echte topper qua peat! Zeker een van mijn favorieten!
For sure the best whisky I had so far. Rich, smokey flavour which lasts long. For me this is the definitive Islay whiskey, if not the definitive whiskey period.
Incredible whisky! Very smokey, nice peat, delicious mouthfeel and a long succulent finish. Easily enjoyed as well. Savour a glass of this over a longer time, it sits well with a long, great aftertaste.
A good one
better than most other peaty ones. like the smoke
Very peaty but rich whisky.
Usually don't appreciate peat but I was very surprised to love this single.
Rich flavour with balanced smoke
Classic scotch to be kept in my collection. Peated and smokey, excellent price/value.
heerlijke whisky; vol rook, turf, jodium; zilt, zeewier
jodium; rook; turf; grafiet; vanille; sinaasappel
turf; jodium; rokerig
lange rokerige afdronk
classic smoky pleasure. in other lagavulin there's more depth.
Tourbe fumée boisé
a must have in any collection a flavourful beast that keeps on giving
Too peated for my taste
nose with rich smoke, notes dark chocolate and smoky finish. my favorite
it's not Laphroaig, but close
A damn fine whisky 10 10
