General description
Nice smoke with floral and fruity notes. Very good!
Whisky | Lagavulin 16 Year Old |

Country | Scotland |
Region | Islay |
Type | Single Malt |
Age | 16 years old |
Abv | 43% |
Rating | 87/100 |
Nice smoke with floral and fruity notes. Very good!
strong peat and smoke, rounded and pleasant, it gets better with every next sip

Geiler rauchiger Whisky! Ein Klassiker!
EYE
Rich caramel with orange facets.
NOSE
Caramel and peat arrive at the scene first and threaten to take over but stop just short of domination. Orange zest, smoked meat, iodine, brine and some crisp red apples orbit the dense caramel and peat core. Overall there is a slight medicinal / novocain quality to the whole aroma that is more intriguing than it is off putting.
TASTE
Peaty upfront with that same iodine meets novocain quality hanging around. Burnt orange glaze, ash malt, subtle toffee, coffee cake, cinnamon and something a little hard to explain swims in the murky orange caramel depths. It’s like a vanilla mint pepper combo that adds a punchy sweetness.
FEEL
Oily and coating it’s a smooth and relaxing dram.
FINISH
Smoky malt fades to smoky oak fades to smoke for a long and savory finish.
Good 16yo
I got this at bar at Kuopio. Barteneder was a really nice guy and knew it's stuff regarding whisky. There was even a 25 year old macallan!
This whisky is really smoky, some seaweed and salt. Not much fruitiness, only smoke and floral notes, fresh leather, little bit of apples, some burnt rubber as well. On palate it is very charcoalish, burnt meat, it feels like I have drank charcoal spiced whisky. It is quite dry and bitter, not too bold. After taste is quite short, leaving smoky, burnt wood taste in mouth.
Interesting whisky, the most close to burnt wood, charcoal, but not my cup of tea necessarily.
Very smooth and smoky but it's become watery and lacking body. A lot better Islays to choose from
Very smooth and smoky but it's become watery and lacking body. A lot better Islays to choose from and completely overrated
Amazing! spicy, vanilla and lots if smoke on the nose.
Slight sweetness, oak and peaty.
Long vanilla smoky finish.
nice
Excellent stuff. So well balanced from nose to finish. Great addition to my collection.
Vanilla, peat, dying fire smoke, faint hint of a struck match
Salt, sherry, vanilla, peat, smoke
Lingering with spicy oak and peat smoke
I didn't want to like this one as much as I do... it seemed too cliche that I might. but, it's inarguably good. refined. buttery. complex... honestly might be my new favorite.
I'm a huge Islay whisky fan and this is the perfect mix of heavy peat, sweetness, and an ultra smooth finish. My all time favorite!
very good smoke, but not too harsh.
The nose is wonderful smoke, and on the palette it is gentle to the tongue yet a burst of flavor.
Smoke, grassy, peat, hay, mossy, sweet, vanilla, caramel, oak, char, spice, green apple, ash, dried fruits, oily, honey, canned pineapples, milk chocolate, saline
Smokey, peaty long lasting.
Dirty socks. A mechanics garage.
Very meaty smoke. copper mineral notes and Peat.
Long finish of smoke, slight band-aid on the end.
Fumado qb. muito bom!

Sweet and smokey
Smoke
I am not the typical Islay lover but this was unexpectedly drinkable
A little Smokey for me but smooth as well
really delicious. notes of cocoa, vanilla, sweet spices.
Peat, woody and sweet.
Very distinctive taste which is enjoyable and rather addictive
one of the best
peat, smokey meat, dried fruits
consentrated and complex. peat and smoke.
long and full.
smokin!
torfig und ölig, sehr schwer - echter "Männer"-Whisky
smokey, sweet and warming. smooth palate with an enjoyable finish. fantastic whisky
so smooth with a beautiful peaty smokey flavour that just stays with you. just a fantastic whisky
ein muss in jeder Bar
Smoky yet full bodied and balanced. Surprisingly peppy taste with a round and pleasant finish.
Earthy, round and smooth smoke. A tad oily. Not meaty and greasy and not like cold ash but somewhere in the middle. Muffled oakiness. Slight citrus. Some sweet caramel. Salt. Dark red fruit (forest fruit). Overall very rich, sweet and salty smoke.
Surprisingly punchy. Surprisingly strong alcohol for the % it has. Salt and brine. Oak covers the mouth. Dry. Pleasant smoke.
Very soft, full and smoky. Salt and maritime notes. Oak. Salt and oaky ash smoke lingers long.
Very smooth round islay
Light and smokey with oak notes. Quite thin
Smokey, tad bit of fruit, slightly sweet
Smokey, dry, oak, tad bit of pepper and sweetness
Smokey, very slight notes of pepper
It is very smoky but also sweet and quite mellow. The nose has a peat smell that is like a burning campfire with slightly wet firewood, and then notes of pineapple and orange peel in behind all of the smoke. The palate has the smoke and some iodin, with a finish that tastes like an unsweetened smoked fish. Really good whisky.
Freshly caught and smoked candied salmon by the ocean.
On the nose this one is incredible. Smoke, sweetness, peat and a bit of salinity from roasted beef. I could smell this all day. The palate confirms the nose, here it also adds a hint of vanilla. Lingering long in the mouth afterwards, this is a great whisky, without a doubt.
a
harmonized peaty and smoky
Simply the finest smoked peaty whisky in the world. It is divine on the nose and so much better to taste. Intense flavours and clearly not a beginners whisky but what a reward when you get to it. I live in Speyside but for me this is my favourite whisky bar none
How have I not actually reviewed this whisky yet!? It is certainly a classic and 100% worthy of a try from every whisky drinker on the planet, but I can't help but feel the hype makes this out to be the be all, end all "scotch drinkers scotch" which frankly it just isn't.
It is very good, and decently priced for what is an older core expression, but it is rather dull and lacking on the tongue and merely pretty good everywhere else.
There are definitely better Lagavulin's on the market (for the same price or less too) and there are definitely better Islay whiskies if you're wanting rich and smoky (hello there, Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dha). That said, you serve this to me on a cool autumn night, sat next to an open fire and there is little else I could ever hope for in my glass.
Dark fruits, oils, brine, salt, smoke, clove and cinnamon spices. You name it, it is probably in here somewhere.
This is where this dram loses me. It is soft, watery, and just really quiet. Fruits and smoke play around in the background, but they're muffled and distinctly lacking.
Some of that Lagavulin oomph comes back here, presenting those richer oils and a denser, wetter smoke that is what I associate with this distillery. I just wish there was more of this from the get go.
My sixt whisky. A peated one this time. I was curious if I would like it and oh boy do l. I love the smell. It reminds me of my great grandfather (pipe, sigar smoking, leathery smell) and of my husband's days as a fireman (his suit smelled very much like smoke 😉). The whisky is smooth and it stays on my tongue a long time. Like smoked food / fish does and I love it.
Absolute classic. Smoky, good peat. Still smooth.
Smells like a bonfire, tastes really smokey and spicy too. I was told to avoid Lagavulin as a beginner due its high ppm but im loving it.
A very nice dry and smoky whisky with an extraordinarily rich finish.
Peat, fruits, smoke, a little medicinal
Warm, bitter, peak, maybe nuts
Quite complex finish, realizing gradually different dimensions of bitterness and a peak. Sometimes floor paste, but hidden.
The Islay representative in the Classic Malts series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Probably the most pungent of all Islay Malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers.
Intensely concentrated flavour, massive Peat smoke with ultra-intense iodine. The fruity-sherry notes, vanilla and Lapsang Souchong.
A rich, dried fruit sweetness of the sherry character with clouds of strong smoke, barley-malt flavours. At the back of the mouth is an explosion of salty and peppery smoke.
Hugs, long, warming and peppery with a distinct appetising sweetness. A little spice lightens the grip of the Peat and vanilla.
Beautifully balanced and light. Nice and peaty with some smoke
Smokey.
Fruity and sweet
Peat smoke and vanilla
Lagavulin is a promise of a balanced taste, a sweet emotion and a call to pour some more
It definitely lived up to the hype but I prefer Talisker 10
Beautiful deep amber color. Definitely peat on the nose. Slight burn then a flavor explosion in the mouth. I’m not sure I’ve tasted anything like it before. Warm aftertaste.
I can taste the smoky peat and the salty air it was aged in.
Nose is bonfire embers, black pepper, sea salt, bitter toffee, honey, creme brulee.
The taste is a backbone of sweet caramel;: more of that creme brulee; and a smoky, peaty second taste. More black pepper and salt flakes.
The finish is charcoal, peppery peat, a little barrel spice, but a dry-rub smokiness. This is obviously a superior Scotch. Balanced, smoky, rich, salty, peppery and simply wonderful.
Earthy smoke, peat, and salt.
Smokey
medium
long
Beautiful memory flashback.
Torfy, earthy, bonfire in Sweden with sky full of stars in cold summer air
Sehr tofrige Note mit sehr gelungenen Abgang!
very peaty and light
peaty, smells like the seaside
oak, wood
spicy, smoke
No need to describe. Easy choice, best cost benefit
It's difficult not to get overly passionate about this, but it's perfection to me. A quality expression, with spiralling complexity that goes way beyond the peat. It's rich and smooth and draws me in. It's like sitting by a fire and reading an old book with a stogie. Straw, salt, iodine, peat, honey. Thick, coating mouthfeel.
Iodine, sea salt, boggy peat fires. Something sweeter?
The peat gives way to floral blossoms, heather, honeysuckle.
Medium long, warmth carries through with smoke, oak and caramel apple
Smoke, Cherry, Sherry, Rubber
"No Words. Should have sent a poet." whisky. This is truly the life water the ancients discribed.
very Smoky and peaty. very smooth
Very smokey and peaty
Excellent Islay. A classic
Makes me think of a summer cookout. Charcoal grill smoke
Goes down easy. Definitely some smoke (meaty). Light honey
Medium finish that coats your mouth not your throat
Nose: mild smoke. Liquorice. Some sour notes. Very mild notes of dried meat.
Palate: sweet and fruity.
Finish :sherry and medium dry

smoke but not as strong as an Ardbeg. warm aftertaste. easy sipper
Basically whisky bacon.
my 1st Islay whiskey. The smokey-ness is very strong, still trying to get used to it. After sipping another whiskey, yes, i do miss the smell. My new good friend.
First thing I noticed was the smell. The smoke and peaty aroma makes me think of camping. This not going to be “regular night cap”. This more of a once in a while type of drink in my opinion. I do, however, now understand why this name is so highly regarded.
Smokey
Peaty
Given this bottle from a mate who didn't like it 1/3 down. I drank the second third in a hotel over ice and tasted a bit like cigar butts. The third third was drank neat in front of an outdoor fire and tasted like the smoke had lifted and the complex flavour was revealed. Will def try again
one that seems to get better as you let it breathe. a bit of sherry sweetness, oaky dryness and smoked meat in there
My Favourite whisky. It has the best evolution of flavour of an whisky. beautiful forest fire smoke and dried fruits
Pine forest fire and smoke, beautiful dried figs and grapes. A little date and sultanas. lastly a finish of Salt spray and seaweed
Sweet Dries fruits (prunes, plums and dates) and little caramel quickly followed by a wave of typical and delicious lagavulin peat and smoke, like a forest fire.
salt, and butter and more smoke with a little oak and Wood. A feeling of fresh mint lingers
My Favourite whisky. It has the best evolution of flavour of any whisky. beautiful forest fire smoke and dried fruits

wonderful smoky Islay dram
I loved its smokey taste. Lagavulin was the reason I started liking whisky.
my favourite of favourites. smokey and harsh nose yet sooo smooth...
Big peat, a bit oily with strong character.
my best, so far. in nose smokey, sea and a bit iodine. taste dry smoke, intense sweetness and maritime notes. finish very long and smooth again smoke, salt and the sea.
My personal favorite.
Smoke. Earth. Warm sweetness.
Smokiness and very balanced. Some warm sweetness and mild fruit.
Warm and smooth.
Intense medicinal peat, idone. Some brine, dried fruits, smoke, vanilla. Herbal finish that lightens up with some sweeter fruitier notes.
Strong, peat and iodine on nose, over ripe or dry fruits, slight sweetness and malty taste, brine and smoke on the finish. Quite good!
The worst whiskey I have ever tasted. One of the reasons is that it is so smokey that all other tastes are covered. This overexaggerated smokey taste remains also the next day. Awfull !!!
Peaty f€#@ing smoking hell
Peaty
Peaty, strong, heavy
Peaty
Voor de echte liefhebbers van rokerige Whisky. Drinkt ontzettend makkelijk. Één van mijn favorieten.
All time favourite
great peat whisky
good peat, Nice smoky, very short sweet,
👍
A round smoke of ham and a hint of sweetness.
Lovely smokey beast, full of character, well balanced with persistent finishing.
a big punch of peat, smoke, slight sweetness, sherry, fishy soil. bonfire
Peaty, but not as forward as Ardbeg. At the same time, I think this one is more smoky... Like camp fire smoke. Very smooth.
Fantastisk! Mjuk med underbar rökighet.
Wat a drink. A big punch of peat smoke, salinity and sweet sherry. Intense but very well rounded.
My favourite peated whisky.
A must have.
heavy smoke, sea, sweetness
dry peat smoke, tar, remember me maritime notes, hint of salt
long and oily
A great smokey dram. Classic what more to say. Though I wish they'd have severed it to me in snifter instead of some stupid tumbler
Przyzwoity torfiak.
Grate whiskey for those that love a smoky taste.
Peat smoke, light, alchohol, almost no aftertaste.
peat smoke, carmel, butterscotch.
Peat smoke, lite taste, mint.
None.
Very good value for money, well priced.
But oh my gosh, it's so overrated! Every single group on fb Is full of suggestion of this whisky.
It's good but nothing that you can't live without it.
There's so much hype. Guys calm down plz!
Like eating a brisket dinner in a seaside library full of shelves and books, next to a doused fire in the fireplace. Beautiful, long lasting, peaty, smoked goodness. In your face, but not aggressive.
smoky, little peaty with chillies aftertaste
Würzig rauchig erdig
holzig rauchig
Würzig und rauchig. Slzig mit Pfeffernoten
Herb rauchig etwas salzig
very nice peated whisky very smooth
Gesetzter Rauch, Seetang, Gischt, aromatische Eiche, leichte Süße und Frucht. Im Nachklang etwas Schokolade.
Ein Klassiker - zurecht. Könnte nur etwas mehr Alkohol vertragen.
Note: 1-
7/10
Rich on smoke and has a hint of sweet aftertast to it =) definetly gonna pbuy it again =)
real good but too much peat for me
Rich, peaty, and just sweet enough.
Smoky scent reminds of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Taste is both strong and full, but bit soft at the same time.Perfect combination.
.
Lovely late taste after tasting, great smell and good tate!
High peat flavor, smoky and smooth.
Thick campfire smoke plus brine on the nose, smooth, smokey, sweet goodness on the palate, smokey, spicy medium finish. Oh my, this is good!
As peaty as it gets. Needs to be the last of the evening, as where can you go after that? €7.50 may 19
Turf smoke
Peaty and smooth
Long smokey
Smooth, goes down well without water, but peat is strong at taste and finish
great smokey taste
Klasse Klassiker!
Für Rauchfans ein "must have".
Top! Gutes PLV!
Very nice salty and sweet. a lot of peat in there. a Nice one of you like the smokey whisky's
Really good whisky!
.
Smoky, peaty, with a sweet aftertaste. Perfect example of Islay malts.
Good if you like medicinal band aid taste
I like the smokiness, but the cigarette ash note kills it for me
it's quite good but i don't appreciate the cigarette ash taste ...
A classic, but probably slightly overrated.
Big smokey hit, gives way to medicinal iodine and vanillas that develop through the end of the nose
Again lots of smoke on the initial pallet, gives way to let sherry, vanilla, dried fruits and some spice develop through the mid, with a big peaty, leathery kick on the back of the pallet to finish.
Medium long with the more subtle notes lingering: sherry, spices and vanilla; oaky sweetness develops at the last.
Very good
Smooth and light smoke
long sweet aftertaste
Rich, peaty bliss. Delightful on the nose. Absolute nectar of the gods.
Smokey, nice, not that strong aftertaste
lovely dram this whiskey is perfect
Its smokey,peaty salty,and spicey but well balanced.👍fantastic
sweet peat smoke,sweetness,iodine
oily peat saltines great mouthfeel and easy to drink
long smokey and sweet
Behagelig og balansert
First sip after opening wasn't great, but needed some time. Much better flavour afterwards.
Smell of the sea with sweetness behind. Very complex palate, smoke, layers of sweetness.. Very long and staisfying smoky finish
sopivan savuinen, makea, pehmeä,
smokey, strong peat and a hint of sea. Lingers in your mouth.
Exelent dram, good on the nose, but the best is on the palate.
Hints of dried fruit, mature wood, almost like an old chest, an extremely elegant peat and a very slight sweetness.
Long and very pleasant finish.
Excellent value for money.
Ausgeglichenü, Rauchig, Spannend. Ein toller Islay Whisky!
Too much smoke with iodine for me
One on the best whisky
I like peat 🥃😋
The first scotch I felt in love some years ago. Heavy peat and smoke,
with some salty notes in the ending. Easy but worth it.
Peat, smoke
Liquorice, oak
Salt
Pure magic. This whisky popped my peat smoke cherry. I wasn't sure about it at first but over time I started to appreciate its complexity and sass. Now that I've finished the bottle, I can't stop thinking about it.
Zeer rokerig. Absolute afsluiter
Heavily peaty, slight iodine notes, very appetizing
Tastes like leather and cigars. Not my kind of whiskey.
Too smokey for me.
my new co-favorite whiskey (along with Balvenie 14 Car. cask). someone else said you can taste the sea--you can!! similar to Talisker 10, but just better.
Bad Ass. This is my favorite dram. its got it all smoke, peat, brine and a sherry oak finish. Its proven to be better than other way higher priced scotches. All at a price thats hard to beat $59 at your local Costco. Put it on your list. You will not be disappointed.
Nose: intense vanilla, cocoa, molasses toffee, sweet cream, and heavy peat and bonfire smoke
Palate: oily, dark chocolate, vanilla caramel, sea salt, fragrant peat and smoke
Finish: long and complex, sweet, caramel, honey, and peat smoke
Overall: exceptional... one of the best ever made!
very nice Smokey easy to drink
If you want something you can buy again not just a single cask, this is the choice. Great Islay taste. Smoke, sweet, long finish
If you like peat and smoke, you will love this one
light smoke, iodine, sea salt
perfect mix of peat and smoke, salt also
finish had a slight burn and spiceness to it, fading to smoke
A strong punch to start with but sweet in the nose and palate. smokiness is as expected for an Islay. Needs water to reduce the burn though.
Iodine, sea salt, sour apples
Sweet smokiness with a hint of pepper
smokey bonfire that isn't too strong and not too dry.
Straight classic. Timeless whiskey.
An absolute gem. This is the one to take you over the edge in your journey. Simply delicious.
peat smoke. sour berries. brine.
perfect sweet and salty. tart.
lovely smoke and fruit. leaves you wanting to have another
Smokey and smooth
classic must have islay
Peat and spice.
rokerig en lekker
Gaining more appreciation for this with every dram. Love the combination of smoke and brine. Takes me to a bonfire on the sea. Awesome.
smoky and peaty, with earthy notes on the back and an ashy aftertaste that lasts just as long as ut should.
Rich, smooth smoky leather with a subtle dark fruity caramel finish. Not as peaty as a traditional Ardbeg,Laphroig or Bowmore. One of my top five!
This very quickly became my favorite whisky. There's nothing better than relaxing at the end of a long day with a glass of Lagavulin.
Wonderful smell of sweet spices and a bit of vanilla. Very strong peat and oak taste with some sweetness. Spicy finish with lots of peat, smoke, and vanilla. Delicious.
Wonderful smell of sweet spices and a bit of vanilla.
Very strong peat and oak taste with some sweetness.
Strong spicy finish with lots of peat, smoke, and vanilla. Delicious.
Noble drink from Islay. Not so hot as Ardbeg 10 but more spicy than Laphroig 10. It is in the middle. Reach taste. For me theese three are the best. It is in the middle.
Nice smoky flavor. Not too expensive either.
not too peaty
Peat smoke
Dark fruit
With a crisp finish
Complex oaky taste.good after red meat
amazing for the price, with a wave of smoke filling your pallet and the subtle sweet spice that warms your taste buds.
a very smooth and well rounded scotch much peaty and smoke flavor a splash of water does it well one of my favorites
sea, salt and smoke.
too much peat for my taste
Strong and smokey Whisky bringing ypu directly to the harsh shores of the shores. not exactly my taste but a very interesting experience
A campfire in a bottle - quite an experience, but probably not one I'd do again any time soon
I was given this for a present and it just doesn't do it for me. if you are a smoke and peat fan then I'm sure it is great.
My first and still my favorit single malt! Smoke and peat in a perfect Mix.
Awesome. It's the way-to-malt for many people. I think that's very good but you can find better and cheaper bottles.
Iodine, peat, smoke and seaweed.
long finish with some vanilla
I don't know. this one is definitely the last of great smoky trio (ardbeg, Laphroaig, lagavulin). it is smoky but less than Laphroaig it has strong woody notes but little too spicy and astringent. it has some complexity and great start with long finish but very little in the middle. very good whisky but not mine favourite.
One of The best
Fumat. Fabulós. Intens però sense arestes.
you have to love peaty smoky whiskey to love this one, cause that is a one badass right there.. :) i don't, so after one glass I chose something that tastes not as oil :D however it is exceptional, can't give a low rating
Refine, peaty and smoky, not too harsh on the finish.
peaty oaky burnt caramel fin
A category on its own. Mature.Peat.Rubber.
Smoky, soft, refined
string peat, but not overwhelming. nice Carmel finish.
great nose.
long mellow peat with Carmel.

One of my favorites.

Well rounded peat whisky with taste of smoke and salt. Super good
this is a winter whisky!! plenty of peat on the nose, bonfires, earthy and ash. full on peat explosion in the mouth. a little spicy then, and some fruits breaking through. red apples. nice long finish, very warming!!
.
Super abgstimmter Islay.
Peat smoke and fruity
Smoke and honey
Smoke, apricot anise
Anise and smoke
smokey and peaty but not too bad
Smoothness and the right level of smoke. Excellent with a great conversation.
Complex flavour that ends with a minty hit.
Perfect!
Excellent scotch with peated and smoked taste. Indispensable in a collection
Peat and smoke
Big, powerful peat and oak.
Long, Peat and smoke
Peat isn't necessarily its main characteristic, but it adds to the charm. Strong first sip, which mellows down and lingers for quite a while
Excellent and smooth whiskey, but not as complex as the Distiller's edition, or something like a Laphroaig quarter cask.
Smoke-forward, followed by leather. Sweet and lingering. Earthy tobacco without the usual astringency. A great whiskey to sit and think with.
Dangerously smooth
sweeter than laphroaig
sweet peaty deliciousness. I get a nice amount of earthy peat smoke, brine, and just the tiniest touch of iodine, but it's all counterbalanced by caramel and vanilla sweetness. it's ridiculously smooth, but still layered and complex. Hard to beat the lagavulin 16.

was my first heavy peated whisky. i was in a different world for half an hour. peat, salt, smoke. great whisky
relatively new to whisky and bought this to give Islay whisky a shot, my god it is good, didn't know I would enjoy this smoke profile
what a whisky... smoke, peat and Sherry hints... amazing balance and incredibly smooth
Peat, smoke, salt: Top!
Smokey, hints of sherry. Spicy finish.
Smokey, salty, hints of sherry on the nose; very smooth and flavoursome on the palate; salty, spicy finish.
Very smooth whisky, great peat taste!
Very peaty / smokey with a lasting taste on the pallet. Extremely enjoyable. Dark in appearance.
Super smokey. Good.
Very intense peated whisky. Smokey notes are quite overwhelming but sea is also there in this must have whisky.
Intense peat smoke, sea, iodine, some sweetness
Salt, smoke, ash, hints of wood, some sweetness
Long and smokey
The sea is raging with waves crashing against the rock under my feet. The wind is whipping my face. It is Islay.
Smoke, surprisingly soft peat, oily texture, briney finish
peat. tobacco. oil. body
Highlight is the nose. Lovely sweet taste and great mouthfeel. Medium finish. Don't add water
Beautiful sweet nose with waves of wood fire smoke.
Soft. Somewhat medicinal. Strong peat.
Finish could be better
Rauchig torfig aber unausgewogen scharf. Bevorzuge doch den komplexer, süßlicheren Laphroaig.
Ofcourse peaty, but when it comes to heavily peated whiskies, this one is a bit on the milder side, probably because it's older than most Islay whiskies. Other notes include brine, like seaweed, iodine, slightly meaty and oily, vegetal peat, slightly peppery and tobacco. Aside from dark, dried fruit notes, there's barely any sweetness, great stuff
peat, smoke, salt, sweet, cherry - complex
Sehr vielschichtig in den Aromen, ser rauchig, salzig un leicht süss. langer abgang. super Whisky, Preis-Leistung top.
très bon whisky tourbé. prix raisonnable.
very peaty on the nose and smooth and warm. this is definitely a staple of Islay but very strong on the peat.
thick smoke and pray with a hint of sweetness
smooth and mild hint of vanilla
very strong oak, peat and, smoke
Amazing smokey flavour

Well balanced, good flavor all the way through. Not overpowering. Will definitely have again
smooth, smoky and peaty, my favourite whisky
Per gli amanti dei torbati un must! Un whisky virile!
Very well balanced peat. Recommend to any peat fan.
Typical peated Islay, but very mature.
Gradual wave of smoke, but never overpowering.
Stays a while, but vanishes quickly when time has come.
Smells like a hearty campfire
Heavy smoke and charred wood
Peaty and Smoky
Smokey and yummy
Classic ~ see tasting notes.
Peat, toffee, tabacco, leather, pie
Leathery wood
Mild, slight burn. The weakest part for sure
slightly smokey, evaporative, light yet bold
Not for everyone, but i love this one!
Rich & smooth, distinct character and plenty of flavour to work through.
Smooth smoke & iodine, minerally, vanilla spice appears, sherry influence creeps in as sweet plums.
Early smoked woods, wave of iodine quickly becomes sweet fruity & malt. Rich malt and sherried fruits. Wonderfully smooth and well balanced.
Smooth, long, warming spice, figs, dates, peat smoke.
I understand why this whisky is popular. The nose and palate are absolutely flawless. However after swallowing it you expect a long lingering aftertaste which would make this one of my favorites. Unfortunately the taste just suddenly disappear completely. This destroys the entire pleasure for me. And for that reason I wont buy another bottle.
Just perfect.
Solid whiskey full of peat. been a staple in my collection.
Nice peat, a bit smokey. Wonderfull after taste.
Amaze balls. More refined but I prefer ardbeg as it punches you in the face, whereas this one gives you a slap instead. Love the nose on it!
Smoke and peat and a tinge of leather and smoked dried beef. Like standing in the smoke of a barbecue pit
Smoke and vapor
Meat and dried jerky, earth and wet slate and must and moss
Long and smooth with smoke lingering
excellent
Next to 20 year, this is my favorite!
perfect balans ...
Peat Whisky
Smoke, Salt, flowers, orange
Sherry, peat, sweetness, oak
Spicy, figs, pineapple, peat smoke
Smokey Paradise. My absolute favorite!
Smoke, rich and simply amazing
Smokey yet balanced with complex undertones
peat , smoke,
My first introduction to real smoky, peaty whiskies. There’s a meatiness like beef jerky, but also a rich leathery note. Of course there’s the smoke, like sharing a cigar on the back patio. Wonderfully complex especially if smoky whiskies are your thing.
This is my go to, my daily drinker, my rise or die.
Amazing taste.
Extraordinary hints of lapsang souchong tea and cognac!
The benchmark for Islay scotch. Excellent all around, pleasant nose with smoke and a heavenly taste from the get go right to the last second of its long, creamy finish. I like this a lot and have yet to come across a better Islay.
Really nice peaty whisky.
Perfect amount of peat and smoke. Incredible dram for the price.
I'm not a fan of peaty whiskies, but this one surprised me! So well balanced!
Phenomenal drop. Near on perfect
My new favourite whisky. Love the peat and smoke.
Peaty on the nose, but with a few drops of water reveal many underlying flavors, including bitter almond.
Peat and peat but the mist balanced from Islay by far. incredible experience every time.
just awesome
peat and loved the smoke, definitely buy again
Nice peat, yet balanced. Feels just right for me. Got some bite in the beginning, and the sooths down to a slumbering smell of dark chocolate lingering in your mouth, slightly bitter yet enjoyable.
For all the peat in the nose, a surprisingly balanced whisky
un excellent tourbé frais et maritime

rich, dark and smokey. the mouth feel was like mint and I kind of had a Christmas tree smell as well. Not sweet or smoky at all.
Peat fire, mesquite, medicinal, dried pear, cantaloupe, ash, sweet liquorice, faint cherry, forest mushroom, stoney minerals. sweet and dry, rich and balanced.
smokey!
Lean smoke and peat nose, but not overpowering. Sweet and smokey and smooth, very well balanced. Finishes with a calm smokey air and a hint of scorched earth.
To me this tastes like velvet tobacco with a hint of Piccadilly aroma; soft on butter notes with a crisp strawberry linger.

Like an old girlfriend
Heavy burnt rubber and wax flavors. A well balanced dram but ultimately rather simple. Sampled from a 1/4 filled bottle
Burnt rubber, smoke, sugar, peat sweet
rubber, wax, smoke, spoiled dried fruit, smoke, salt, iodine, sweet, orange rind
smoke, dried fruit, peat, orange rind
Good, need to taste again to remember how good! Will edit review later.
Rauchbombe.
This whiskey grows on you!! Definite medicinal odor at first but all of the complex flavours and subtle sweetness that follows will have you coming back for more!!
This is way too peated for me. I've had antiseptic cleansers that smelled (ans I'm sure tasted) better. If you like peated scotch, this is for youse.
A really fine Whisky.... I like it
You can't miss with this one. A connoisseur's malt
Smooth and smoky. Classical peated Whisky
Got me started to the single malt world. Smooth, peaty, great!!
Classic. So balanced.
.
A classic...Smokey and peat. Great dram
nice smoke and smooth finish
This is a fantastic whisky. Smoke, fruit, spice, honey. Delicious.
Smoky and peaty
Smooth finish, extra peaty.
Little bit overrated in my opinion. When you can buy it for under 50 bucks, take it.
Like being mauled by a chain-smoking bear who just finished his dinner of barbequed salmon. At first, you're gonna say "Is it in yet?", and then it'll hit you...
too smoky for me
After my third bottle, I finally got into this malt and understood why it is so greatly considered.
It deserves so, because of its perfect balance between smoke and wood, its flavoured taste and long lingering finish. This all makes it very enjoyable and a span above most of other peated malts.
Cheers!
smoky
strong smoky peat taste. nice 16 year old. wonderful lingering finish
The Ultimate Smokey Whisky. Perfect balance between Peat & Smoke...
So much smoke, salt and castles on the tongue
beautifully smooth smokey whisky, age has kept the flavour but removed any harshness. stunning whisky
Quintessential Islay malt; an elegant balance of peat smoke and tasty m, sweet malt.
perfect amount of peat, not too smokey, subtle sweetness. can't go wrong on a stormy day.
Not sure how much better it can get
Bit too much peat & smoke to my liking. Had high expectations, possibly peat&smoke isn't for me.
smokey, sweet, strong flavor and a nice long warming finish. highly recommended!
Smokey, smooth, peaty but balanced
Smoke, peat, rubber, grains, light alcohol
Smoke, peat, burnt candied cherries, smoke peach
Smooth smokiness, peat, peach
Absolute favourite. Got me into the peaty scene. Smoky but surprisingly light finish
beautiful
Peat and campfire. Great to just sip slowly and enjoy
smoky
Good balance of peat, medicinal taste and wood
nice balance in peat & smoke
In a phrase, Mothers milk! This and a few drops of filtered water will release a cascade of flavors of this lowland Scotch. My number one single malt.
great balance of smoke, peat and barrel flavours that lift off in the finish with a cooling effect
One of the best whiskies there is, period. Beats out much older and more expensive offerings, and has a beautiful aromatic peat smoke with a deep complexity as opposed to the brashness of some other Islay distillers. A masterpiece.
Aromatic smoke, peat smoke, spices, sweetness, ginger, salt, oil, treacle, earth
Chilli, sweetness, oil, aromatic smoke, spices, malt, oak
Oil, spices, smokes, oak, malt
If you like peat that doesn't quite rival Talisker this is the scotch for you
Sterile peated iodine notes
Oak smoke giving that medicinal flavor that heavily peated whisky carries. Very warm spiced finish
Spiced pepper finish
Reallly, really as I read, one of the best whiskies I've tasted. Taste of smoked barley, fine smoke, sweetness. Perfect balance.
