General description

On first approach, light but noticeable smokey peat (I am picking it up well due to having light speysides recently). Has a nice lemon/lime citrus and a little briney saltiness. As it sits in the glass, the 20% sherried portion begins to encase the smoke and malt. It is in the background but is noticeable and the balance is beautiful for a 10 year old. Nice balanced finish. Coming back even a few days later, the sherry has really started to burst out and assert itself.

pretty decent speyside expression, with a pretentiin of complexity, yet, the interwowen notes lack a conductor that would make a true simphony, rather than a bunch of notes, fighting to get noticed.

General description

Using the guide within, its a lovely "Tawny" colour, nice film on the glass, very slight smoke in the whiff, with sweetness, spice & raisins. Pleasant flavours; I expected a harshness from other reviews, but the peat, is not in any way overpowering. Dark chocolate, wood and a smooth easy, medium finish. At one point, it was like a sweet cake ? - I'm into the 90's now, (bottles), in a growing collection and this is very welcome.
Later on, with some fine cheeses, (& a biscuit) I found the peat a little more prevalent on the palate, almost medicinal but OK. At the end, the biscuit was like burnt toast in the mouth 🤷‍♂️👍🧀🥃. Nothing bad here - magnificent drop:

Nose

Hint of smoke, dried fruits, nice, mild.

Palate

Smoke yes, but not overpowering. I thought a dark chocolate, spicy as well. 👍

Finish

Medium finish with an oak & dry wine, hanging in, on the peat.

Actually classic Speysider, with lots of vanilla and red fruits taste, but also a pronounced "wild" character that makes it enjoyable as well as bold. Rounded on the palate, but with some edges on the nose, it's a fully rewarding dram, not as easy as it could seem. Thumbs up, especially from a quality/price point of view.

This has to be THE bargain Scotch in this price range along with Monkey Shoulder. Nose is rich with malt, butterscotch, and peat. Palate follows suit with peat not overwhelming although heavier than something like Highland Park. Sherry, malt, peat give nice structure while smoother than most islay. 80:20 ex-bourbon:ex-sherry then 12 months in Oloroso sherry cask.

Quite oily with slow legs. This is a Speyside that could be mistaken for an Islay or Island whisky. It needs a little water to reduce the prickle and bring out the sweetness.

Nose

Light iodine, old leather sofa, vanilla, after a while I get cider and then toffee

Palate

Woody, bandaids, prickly heat, light sweetness

Finish

hint of smoke, dry wood

Fairly evident peat and spice immediately after opening, but after it sits for 10 minutes it reveals a hidden fruity character. Smooth on the palate with fairly pleasant traces of peat and smoke on the finish. Adding a drop of water elimates the mild heat but seems to dilute the peat. Very good whisky available at a decent price.

Outstanding 10 y Single Malt! Complex, but also good for newbies.

Nose

At first a whole lot of smoke, mixed with sherry cask influences as ripe red fruits. Oak is in the background. Spicy sweetness. The longer it remains in the glass, the peaty smoke steps back and it becomes more fruity.

Palate

Smoke is still remaining. Sweet red cabbage, some winter spices. Red apple mixed with dried cranberries. Very light floral speysidish. A dram for the entire afternoon.

Finish

Medium to long. The smoke now is really just a small touch. The spices remain a little longer.
