|Whisky||Highland Park 12 Year Old Viking Honour|
|Age||12 years old|
N:21, P:22, F:19, B:19. This whiskey showed its masculine character and certain heaviness in taste. At least in comparison with Singleton Dufftown. Sweet flavours of vanilla and fruit. Also some tart piney aroma. Simple but decent.
Fruit, dried fruit
Good value, smooth honey, peaty on the nose only
Floral nose with a slight kick and peaty finish
Warm and fruity with a peppery kick
Slightly peaty and spicy
Not aggressive but not too remarkable nose. Smells better after the first swallow. Taste is ok but not very particular. No peat. Medium finish, slightly bigger. Water doesn't kill the nose and smoothes the taste. Surprising for a 40abv
hiukan savua, toffeeta ja karamelli makeutta tuoksussa. maku hyvin kepeä, hiukan heinämäinen. loppu melko lyhyt.
Clearly one of my favourites!
Sehr empfehlenswert.
A really great whisky. Peat with a hint of grass, smoke and honey mainly, but there is also some fruit slightly involved here. Very refined finish and a gentle but also feral taste.
wow lekker! brand lekker achter in de keel heerlijke aanrader!
Lightly very drinkable, a daily whisky, sweet with a very light smoking. A whiskey certainly well done and well balanced, even if it lacks a bit of body, is also penalized by a low proof in my opinion.
Ganz lecker.
Sweetness on the nose, a little smoke behind. Complex and interesting. Caramel and vanilla on the palate, burst of flavors. Short finish.
Sweet and lightly smokey on the nose with hints of heather and fruit. Smooth and easy with more fruit and sweetness. Better that the younger sister.
Well balanced flavour, slightly smokey
A nice sweet (not too sweet) and lightly smoky whisky that has a nice prickle on the palate a finish that isn't too dry.
Sweet, vanilla, a hint of sherry, sea salt, wet grass
vanilla, wood, smoke.
slight dry oak, light pepper prickle, a little peat
A coastal whisky
Very sweet smell. A hint of honey and smoke in the flavour.
Nose is fresh vanilla tobacco (unsmoked), a little bacon smokiness. Mouth is sweet honey with candied orange plus a soft sweetness. After is warm, a little spice. So Easy.
Nose is fresh vanilla tobacco (unsmoked), a little bacon smokiness. Mouth is sweet honey with candied orange plus a soft sweetness. Pillowy soft and smooth. So Easy.
A slightly smoky note on the nose and taste. Furthermore a sweet honey taste
gentle smokyness, no tobacco type smoke. balance of different flavours. sweet floral aspect on the nose. slight sherry dark fruity influence. quite a long finish. very pleasant balanced dram and great value.
Has one of the longer aftertastes
Delicious, honey sweet with a touch of smoke
Vanilla, honey, toffee, mild earthy smoke
lightly floral honey, salt, sweet earth, leaf pile, touch of smoke
Salt, smoke, faint honey
A good whiskey
Retrogusto affumicato, poco sentore di alcool, buonissimo.
Really nice and round whiskey with a bit of smoke.
Sweet and smoke covers it, delicious!
As great as ever
rokerig en moutig in de neus
zoet op de tong
zacht en honingzoet, hout
long finish, mout. veranderd naar noten en hout
Smoky, rich and a little bit of sweetness
Nice easy drinker smoke and honey are my primary flabors
Smoke and honey
Smokey honey, apricot
Nice easy drinker smoke and honey are my primary flavors
Smoke and honey
Smokey honey, apricot and pear
Begin stevig, lekkere afdronk
The best whiskey tasted until November 2018.
Guter Highland Park zu einem fairen Preis.
Etwas Rauch, viel Heidekraut, mittellange Abgang.
Wonderful, complex and smoky
Nose had a burn even after leaving it out for a while taste is something I personally love charcoal oakey taste the taste of been at a bomefire nighr
Deftig würziges Aroma, rauchig, Geschmack nussig mit süßer Vanille.
Vanilla, peat, smoke and pronounced alcohol. The flavor is better than the nose would suggest. I tasted blind and am not a peat fan. I would not buy this but I give it 3 stars for accomplishing the mission.
In der Nase leicht Vanille, rote Früchte, Honig, kalte Asche, Räucherstäbchen/kegel. Geschmacklich leicht rauchig, verbranntes Holz, esoterisch, feuchtes Gras/Moos.
ash, smoke and peat. lovely spicey warm whiskey.
Licht rokerig, maar niet overheersend. Lekkere honingsmaak. Prima fles
Aroma: Strong honey and sweet
Taste: Sweet honey, orange, vanilla
Throat: Transformative firm smoke aftertaste.
Lovely sweet whiskey. Leaves you wanting more...
Complex. Lots of different flavours. A bit more saltiness than anything else. Sweetness, Caramel, fruits, smoke, brine, spices. Good value.
Some great scotch whisky.
Soft, floral & very enticing. Easy drinking. Palate can be a little hard to place but that just gives more to explore. Solid whisky for the money!
Floral honey, sweet citrus, aromatic and very welcoming.
Initial floral & citrus, warms to honey. Tannins come through and a gentle pepper builds. Oaty & hazelnut.
Medium long, mild peppery spice. Tannins linger.
Quite affordable nice, round whisky with fruity and a bit of smoky notes. My favorite if I want to drink a couple of drams at a party without philosophying in a tasting atmosphere. Already have my third bottle in my third year of enjoying whiskys.
Very good smokey flavor
slight smoke mixed with lavender and honeysuckle. slight citrus note. rich creamy mouthfeel. medium smoke and pepper finish
fruity with a little bit smoke.
my favorite everyday whisky
Just the right amount of smoke, pleasant all around.
I'm only a beginner, but this is a great 'all round' whisky. The complexity of it means I can find different notes (and start to identify the different notes). Will definitely buy this again as I am sure it would be a perfect whisky for most people's tadtes, even if it is slightly over packaged in my opinion.
honey toffee smoke
sweet and fruity taste
sweet with grassy and honey scents
sweet slight peat
love the smoky/peat taste on this..not to harsh just pleasant..on my 2nd bottle of HP 12..cost about £25 on deal in supermarkets..
sea water Briney spice light smoke
Always very good and balanced. Smooth taste with just a bit of smoke and sweetness. 👍
A great whisky with a bit of everything - light smoke, sweetness, a bit of sherry and oak. The perfect introductory bottle for Scotch.
Peat smoke, sherry, malt, oak, sweetness, spices, chocolate
Spices, sweetness, sherry, oil, malt, oak, red apples, peat smoke
Peat, malt, sweetness, heather
Possibly my first real whiskey! My review will not do it justice, very nice!
not very complex but does the job
A decent 12 year table whisky with a unique bottle. The nose is full of honey notes with some fruit and citrus mixed in - not inspiring but nice. Palate is both sweet and smoky. Surprisingly smooth with a peaty edge; altogether decent, with a slight grapefruit bitterness on a somewhat unassuming and uneventful finish. The old 12 is slightly better in my opinion, but the unique bottle with the great twist off cork gives it some added flair. It makes a great decoy bottle for those friends that tend to pour from the more attractive and unique bottles.
Honey, fruit, citrus
sweet and smoky some peat and grapefruit bitterness
smooth and creamy
Smoky, smooth sweetness of a honey.
Peaty and smokey, a nice sweet tipple for the first second. However, we ended up mixing with ginger ale... The Woodford Reserve swapped out for the straight choice that night 🥃
Kaum rauch, pflaumenkuchen in der Nase, fruchtig süß.
Barely smoke, plum cake in the nose, fruity and sweet.
Fresh is the order of the day with this light and crisp dram. The nose is at turns spiky and rubbery and quite light. This has some citrus to the palate and rose flavours with not much else obscuring the gentle alcohol. The body is quite thin and the finish short, with mainly rose ending. This is elegant in its few notes, but a very light touch that doesn't leave a lasting impression.
Sweet, rubbery and light.
Citrus, rose, sweetness.
Rose and little else.
Not bad at all, but a little overrated in my opinion. Read a lot of reviews saying this Viking Honour isn't the same as the old 12. Maybe there's something to that, never had the original. The sweetness is nice and the other tastes are there but just to light overall. Not what I expected from a whisky that gets so much attention.
EDIT: with the dram on a little higher room temp it's softer and sweeter which I like more. Rating adjusted.
Spice and sweetness. Nice.
Combination of a lot of things. First some sweetness, then wood and malt tastes. Little bitter. Pretty light, to light in my opinion. Almost no alcohol taste.
Very subtle smoke, some more wood and bitterness. Malty. Very small touch of brine.
light smoke and peat smell. balanced flavor.
has a bit of a bite but oh so tasteful.
Mild, gut trinkbar
First impression is OK.
There is a lot going on around the nose.
At first a sweet floral note, then the grass and heather join the party, some honey and citrus fruits complete the nosing.
Alcohol is almost non existent, the same goes for peat and smoke despite it is a 20%ppm.
The malty and slight bitter taste has also some orange peel and brown bread, a little oak, sweet honey and a slight touch of smoke.
The medium finish again has some heather, a touch of smoke, wood, pepper and caramel sweetness.
A quarter of this dram spent it's years on first fill sherry casks made from Americain oak. But I miss the fulness of first fill in this one.
Why they bottled this at 40% is a complete mistery to me. I think it would have been a lot better of with a higher abv.
Despite of its lovely sweetness and 12 years of age, it lacks power, depth and fullness.
I am a little dissapointed in this one.
But because of its sweetness i suppose it's a good starter.
Smooth drinking Scotch. Vanilla and caramel is prevalent.
As good as the old one (I don't understand the lower rating). Great all-round affordable Scotch and this time with superb presentation.
Nose: vanilla custard, fragrant musky wood like sandalwood, a little floral. I couldn’t discern any peat. Lighter and sweeter than I’ve come to expect from an island whisky.
Palate: a lovely hit of flavour after the almost daintily sweet nose. Light but creamy body, malty, notes of cooking spice, black tea with lemon and honey.
Finish: silky smooth, seeing the sweetness give way to the smoke I was promised. This is more pipe tobacco than peat smoke. Short but pleasing.
Conclusion: I really like this whisky. In a word: satisfying. It’s not surprising that HP12 is recommended to those starting out in Scotch - it showcases a little bit of everything scotch whisky can offer, delivering sweetness, smokiness, fruitiness and even the barest hint of island brine, a varied palette that sets it above other recommended ‘beginner’ malts like The Glenlivet 12 or Glenfiddich 12.
sweet, sharp, full of taste. lots of fruit, honey and oak.
