General description

Glenmorangie Astar 2017 is a worthy competition to 'rangie Tusail, which is unique in Otter barley use and also at lower 46% cw Astar 52.5%. Astar is aged in Missouri oak casks and nose and palate feels more oaky yet balanced w creamy sweet fruit, almost cake-like, more w couple drops of water, more appreciable w few drops starting in back of tongue.

I'll be the odd man out. to be fair, i was served in a half pint glass.

started with a nice orange cream, as it aired it went sour before turning into a funky moldy fruit and sour grass.

first taste was lightly sweet. white fruit, honey, mild citrus. then soured into swamp water.

long, clingy, green algea.

Plenty of vanilla, honey, marzipan and citrus, with cinnamon and a touch of oak. A long, warming finish ends with pepper and dry, lemon flavored iced tea.

General description

I was very glad that a participant brought a Glenmorangie to the tasting I visited last saturday.
The re-released Glenmorangie Astar. The original was a bit stronger with 57,1% But this one sadly was bottled at a bit lower 53%.
It's not filtered and no added colouring (pale gold).
The botlle label said that slow growing and porous oak was used for the casks.

The nosing shows a splendid combination of hot and spicy alcohol in perfect harmony with a warm sweet candy and marzipan.

The taste shows the same strong alcohol burn, but its nicely balanced with sweet dried fruit and warm cloves.
A waxy layer of mint and vanilla covers tongue, cheeks and teeth.

The very long spicy finish starts of a bit dry and oaky but than it very elegantly fades into a smooth sweet combination of flower/honey/almond and coconut.

Diluting this one didn't soften the experience.
Not really an easy drinker, but if you like very sweet and spicy flavours, this surely is one for you.

What a nice expression of Glenmorangie again.

Highly recommended!!!

88 points.

Sent the store on an epic 45 min. quest to find a bottle they had in stock. Well worth the wait. Extremely flavorful without the high abv burn.
