It's like a high class, refined, bourbon old fashioned. It is easier to drink than its proof suggests and takes water well. Its value is about 30% better than its usual price compared to other high proof bourbons in its class.

General description

12 year old, Barrel Strength Whisky at 58.4%Abv for $48.99. Thats a great price, most Barrel Strength Whisky is at least $60. Been looking for this one, and its a rarity on shelves around here, so this was a must buy. This is damn good bourbon, one of my favorites now, rating 85/100, add a point for value, so 86/100.

Nose

So Immediately, Dark fruit notes, like plum, ripe orange, and some berry. Then you get that honey and floral, with some brown sugar, Tobacco, then some coco or like coffee. With its proof, Id almost say a hint of mint. Finishing with some dark chocolate. Overall great nose.

Palate

First off Berry, floral, honey vanilla, low amounts of brown sugar, then that dark fruit note with some candy like flavor apple. Got some of that southern Molasses, with some coffee and dark chocolate. Great Taste.

Finish

Goes back into its traditional roots with brown sugar, dark fruit, orange citrus with some honey. Medium to long finish.

Didn't care for it the first time
Haven't liked it any time since
I use it purely for mixing to get rid of it
Taste like liquid cracked black pepper and i can't get a single additional flavor

My favorite distillery. This is great bourbon. All your classic flavors amped up. Caramel, butterscotch, vanilla, wood spice and maybe a little dark fruit. The barrel proof brings a good bit of heat but certainly tolerable. Delicious!! Warning: Do Not add water as it actually increases the burn.

Nose had hints of vanilla, and candy bar. Mouthfeel was creamy but tannic. Finish was a cinnamon punch but then lingered into a sweeter or cherry end. Overall a rich and well balanced bourbon.

General description

Wow! An exemplary, rich, dark and complex bourbon. Alongside the usual bourbon caramels and vanilla, there’s a dark, bitter, earthy complexity to this bourbon that puts it way ahead of its peers. There are espresso bean, dark chocolate and earthy herbaceous notes, and even a slight hint of phenolic tar, that run throughout. I bought this along with a set of other bourbon samples that included Eagle Rare, WT 101, Larceny and 1792 small batch and this stood head and shoulders above the rest for me. Fabulous whiskey.

Nose

Big, rich nose. There’s buttery, creamy toffee, alongside cloves, cinnamon and a touch of white pepper heat. Complexity and depth is provided by darker coffee and tar notes, as well as some ripe orchard fruits in the background including apples and pears.

Palate

Lovely silky, full bodied mouthfeel. A very strong dark arrival, there’s the usual bourbon caramels, but these are strongly accented by beautifully weighted oak, espresso beans and dark chocolate. The spices then develop beautifully on the mid palate, with the cloves and cinnamon from the nose singing off every taste bud. This becomes deep and complex through the back palate transitions with some earthy and herbaceous notes, maybe sorrel.

Finish

More deep herbaceous notes along with lingering dark chocolate bitterness and white pepper heat. Exemplary!

Barrel proof Wild Turkey 6, 8, 12 years old blend. Getting younger. Good everyday whisky, expecting so much more.

Nose

Orange marmalade, nice oakiness, more younger than older whisky, yeasty sour notes.

Palate

Surprisingly easy to drink despite high volume alcohol. It is good whisky, but just not more. Not very complex, very good balance. Yeasty sour notes, fruity Orange marmade kind of thing and mild oak because this tastes as quite young whisky dominates. Vanilla, chocolate too.

Finish

Expecting longer finish from this.

this one's got a bit-o-kick! Great flavor profiles on the follow up sip....Not the smoothest in its price range, but still a quality drink...
