Really smooth and sippable. Can barely pick up the port notes behind the silky woody flavor.

obviously sweet for a rye, but overall very nice. a good on-ramp for rye. dark fruit, toast, and velvet mouth. for the price I'll definitely buy again.

dark redish to the eye with sweet and strong taste at first and lasting flavor. Amazing to the nose. Not to be a regular in the bar but good to taste once in a while

General description

Nose is amazing with dark berries, dry plum and unusul rye spice. There is a clear taste of the port. Along with it comes sherry, , dark berries, vanilla, plum. The finish is quite short and classic rye spice is missing. However, finish comes nutty, peppery and again the dark berries. Its a dangerous good sipper but for me the finish is to short.

General description

I bought a bottle based on the clerk at the liquor store's rave reviews. A fancy bottle and a fancy price, but this is definitely not the rye for me.
.

Nose

I could smell the sweet port. It was pleasant and I thought I was in for a treat.

Palate

Overly sweet with a profound sherry taste doesn't work well with rye in my opinion

Finish

There's a lingering taste that I can't quite identify. Almost like raw peas.

General description

I thought this was really interesting. Strong influence from the wine barrel gives this a much more likable character than the standard BH. Notes of dry red wine, cherries, vanilla, and a bit of rye spice at the end. It's very smooth and drinkable but a bit one dimensional and the short finish leaves something to be desired.

Nose

Red wine, spiced fruit, vanilla, cherry wood

Palate

Dry red wine, fruity, smooth, light bodied, more cherry

Finish

Spice, cherry skins

fantastic. sweet upfront with banana, rye, raisin, and vanilla, with a bitter tannic oak finish. delicate but bold, well balanced. thinking about trying it in a manhattan.

General description

Dark in color. Sweeter on the nose. Palate gets some rye and port sweetness, smooth, some tail end lingering bitterness. Reminiscent of molasses, port, and rye whiskey.

I don't get it, this tastes less like a rye than the original Basil Hayden bourbon. I guess I need to find a bottle of their regular rye. This one is overcome by the port, too fruity to consider a rye in my opinion.
