Review: You definitely need to be a rye lover to enjoy this whiskey. It greets you with a rather bold syrup that nods to maple, then fades into caramel. It is spicy up front with a heat that persists, but is not overwhelming. Mid pallet you get the clear rye flavor, like a piece of buttered pumpernickel toast. From there, it thins out and just sort of ghosts on you. It is kind of like a party guest that you are really excited to see. They arrive to the party, tell a few jokes and get everybody pumped up.... then after one cocktail they sneak to the coat closet, get their stuff and vanish on you without saying goodbye. Long story short (too late, right? ) This is well-crafted, balanced and a solid buy for the price, but I would like to see it hold its oomph a little longer and have a little more "wow" in the finish.
