General description

By far the worst 10 year I've ever had and close to the worst scotch I've ever had. I've been on the search for a while to find a decent scotch under $30 a fifth and this isn't it. Dewar's is the same price and so far the best I've found for around $25 a LITER, not fifth.

As I'm sipping and writing this review, it is becoming better and I'm tasting more flavors, but it's still not good.

Nose

Faint smell of fresh sawdust soaked in paint thinner and caramel.

Palate

Harsh, bitter, iodine, sherry, citrus peels, and fresh oak.

Finish

Acetone and dark chocolate. Leaves a taste of earwax coating on the back center of the tongue (don't judge me for knowing what earwax tastes like).

General description

I am trying this for the first time right now: Presents elegantly with a amber-gold hue in a substantial, corked bottle.

Nose

The alcohol scent is not overpowering. I would say that it is just right in that it allows other notes to come through nicely.

Palate

Two fingers with about 3cc of cold water goes down with a spicy warm bite.

Finish

I've noticed a sweet taste on my lips as well as on the tip of my tongue when i inhale. The sweet note is entirely complimentary to the whole experience - in other words, it doesn't ruin it by making me feel like I just ran out and had a jelly donut.

Anybody that doesn't enjoy this single malt is just a name brand snob. Try it with just a drop of water in a shot glass, or in an Irish coffee. Very good and very reasonably priced. The cork stopper is a plus.

Nose

very mellow

Palate

Smooth

General description

20$ single malt from mystery distillery

Nose

Very inviting with dusty malt and sweet sherry notes mixing together nicely. The nose of this is exceptional. It's not complex but well balanced. Plus the notes that are present are very good notes.

Palate

Light palate, wood bitters with slight sherry and malty flavors balanced. Not as good as the nose.

Finish

Spice is decently long, malt and sherry vanish a little too soon. The balance of this very inexpensive single malt is surprising. All of the flavors compliment one another for a very enjoyable drink.

Good for the price. A little smokey, hint of grape?, bit of bite. Not too bad. The more I drink the better it is...

Nose

Fruity Grape and sherry

Palate

A little bitter and short, with a hint of sherry and vanilla

Finish

A little bitter with a short finish. Gets smoother the more you drink it.

Got it for $20 at my local grocery store. This is a good example of why if you want to get something cheaper you should get something blended. Though this is a single malt, it's taste is closer to a bottom shelf blend.

Nose

Sweet Sherry, acetone, oak,

Palate

sweet oak, though it is not exceptional on the palate it is acceptable

Finish

Dry acetone

General description

I purchased this scotch upon seeing it at the supermarket back in March of 2020. Only after buying it did I conduct some research on the internet, and found almost zero mentions and no detailed reviews. Thinking it was just some cheap knockoff, I placed the unopened bottle inside a green plastic bin of emergency COVID-19 supplies because I thought it might be useful in an apocalyptic situation of some kind. Today I found myself struggling with the anger and frustration of VPN-related teleworking problems. I was about to punch my computer screen and quit my job, but then I remembered I had the Scotch. So instead of doing that I retrieved the bottle, poured myself a glass, and was surprised at how good it is. My mood improved almost immediately. I am not a scotch whiskey connoisseur but I enjoyed this drink, and might even buy it again.

General description

Bitter, sharp, unrefined, medicinal, not a repeat buy. Monkey Shoulder and Speyburn are both superior for the price range. This tastes like a budget mixing Scotch not a sipper. Wouldn't buy again at any price, when better Scotch is out there for the same or few $$ more.

Nose

Sharp, medicinal, and dry oak. Burnt caramel.

Palate

Immature, sherry, some carmel, some sawdust, a bit of stale vanilla, but mostly bitter young oak and burny. It tastes unrefined and cheap.

Finish

Rough, acidic citris, new oak, charcol.

Grape bubble gum, turpentine and sherry on the nose, smooth and oily palate with sherry, nuts and chocolate notes, the finish is medium length and warming. Can’t beat the price for a single malt scotch, $20 on sale at the local Albertsons.
