Drinks a lot like the Weller Special Reserve, but it's a little more complex.

General description

Weller C.Y.P.B. is a fine bourbon; not overly complex, but one that most anyone could easily enjoy.

My rating: 87

Weller C.Y.P.B. vital stats:
Bottle proof: 95
ABV: 47.5
Mash bill: unknown, but likely similar to other Weller releases: Corn: 70%; Wheat: 16%; Malted Barley: 14%

Back story:
Back in 2015, Buffalo Trace launched their “Craft Your Perfect Bourbon" (probably in jest) website as a way to educate consumers about their whiskey.  Bourbon drinkers would get to (at least, theoretically) try their hand at “crafting” their own bourbon. Once on the site, people would be able to determine the grain recipe, watch that recipe go through the distilling process, determine where in the warehouse it would be aged, how long it would age, and the ultimate proof of the bourbon when it would be ready to bottle.

In total, 100,239 people made recipe suggestions. According to Buffalo Trace, an overwhelming number of eager crafters "made" a wheated bourbon, aged on the top floor of the warehouse to be bottled between 90 and 99 proof.  In theory, Weller C.Y.P.B. is the culmination of "the peoples efforts" (not withstanding any fuzzy math ... how does one cram eight years of aging between inception in 2015 to its release in 2018!?!)

Nose

Sweet butterscotch candy gives way to rich toffee. Alcohol is there but does not overwhelm.

Palate

Bright floral notes greet the tongue, followed by the rich toffee sensed on the nose.  The 2018 C.Y.P.B. has a pleasant oily mouth feel and is nicely blended.

Finish

The finish is not overly long and the flavors fade fairly quick, but bourbon warmth lingers.
