General description
Cask strength Glen Scotia! I love wine Nd port cask whiskies, especially the peated ones, and this is just as good as I'd hoped. I got to try a single barrel tawny port at the distillery several months ago, and so was thrilled that their festival bottle was going to be a tawny port as well.
Nose
Sweet sugar glazed strawberries and candied ginger. There are richer meaty notes of sizzling pork belly and honey roasted bacon, arbroath smokies and pushed mahogany. Creamy vanilla sweetness underpins it all, rich buttercream frosting and new York cheesecake
Palate
Smoke and spice dominate, rich mouth filling and hot, harissa, paprika and a touch of cumin. there's briny notes of anchovy and herring in oils. Red liquorice and more sweeter berry fruity notes, stewed red apples and butterscotch.
Finish
There is an almost minty freshness coming through at the finish as you exhale, spearmint. Lemon zest and then waves of brine and dry earthy peat smoke. Its rich and full, sweet and spicy with the heat from the alcohol ramping it up
